Overview

As the Payroll Tax Lead at Guardian Life Insurance Company, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll tax operations for our organization. Serving as a subject matter expert, you will oversee payroll tax reporting, funding, and reconciliations, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to guarantee the integrity of payroll tax processes.

You Have:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in payroll tax reporting, preferably within a large corporate environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Workday (Payroll Platform), including payroll processing and reporting functionalities.
  • Experience with OneSource Information Reporting System for tax information reporting.
  • Proficiency with the ADP system, including payroll deposits, reporting, and related tax operations.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), essential for reporting and analysis.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred; candidates without certification should demonstrate equivalent expertise.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills, with a diligent approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams and external agencies.
  • Ability to manage several priorities, work independently, and maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters.

You Will:

  • Coordinate daily submissions to ADP for payroll tax withholdings, 1099 distributions, and claims/disability disbursements.
  • Perform reconciliations between Workday and the General Ledger to ensure accuracy of payroll tax withholding and funding.
  • Support the Payroll Supervisor in overseeing payroll tax reporting using ADP and information reporting for all company agencies.
  • Assist with all withholding-related audits, providing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries as needed.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to notices and communications from tax agencies regarding payroll tax matters.
  • Identify and implement improvements in execution to improve payroll tax operations, streamline reporting, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT teams on payroll tax-related projects, systems integrations, and data accuracy initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and ensure compliance across all payroll activities.
  • Train and mentor payroll staff on payroll tax procedures and guidelines.

  • Three days per week at our Guardian Office in New York, NY

Salary Range:

$116,350.00 - $191,155.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
