JOB SUMMARY: Role of the Remote Ophthalmic Medical scribe is to assist the physician with documentation of the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). The remote scribe will review recorded audio and transcribe the history and examination of the patient as dictated by the physician. Under the direction of the physician, the scribe will record the complaint of a patient (as stated by the patient), record the findings of the exam by the physician, input diagnoses, and plans to ensure appropriate coding. They also assist with prescriptions, orders, and tasking.
CORE COMPETENCIES: Load patient data into EMR system to maintain punctual and accurate documentation in a timely manner Document medical information dictated by doctor during patient exam into EMR system Route charts when necessary, assigns and completes patient follow-up, tasks by end of shift or within 24hours depending on urgency of issue Remain friendly and helpful to doctors and colleagues at all times Learn and master AIDET training, exhibit at all times when interfacing with patients Responsible for properly coding visit and services provided under the provider’s oversight Responsible to keep provider informed of patient needs or portal communication Documents any procedures that may be performed by the provider or ophthalmic medical personnel Accurately transcribes any consultations or discussions with family members By end of day, make assessments of charts and follow-up with patients (letters, email, prescriptions) as indicated in EMR system Involve and escalate any issues, in a timely manner, to Supervisor, Practice Manager, and/or Provider as needed Collaborate with the onsite teams to understand provider preferences, clarify questions or incomplete recordings, and make corrections to charts as directed.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma required, some college or degree preferred; Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) required within 3 months of employment for compliance. Required Minimum Experience: 1 – 2 years in healthcare environment A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Familiar with EMR System ModMed Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Punctual and reliable Must be able to multitask Conscientious about triage and escalation of issues Excellent typing skills at least 55 wpm with accuracy Proficient in listening and processing pertinent information Highly efficient with time Familiar with diagnostic codes Ability to learn “on the job” Willing to ask questions to ensure comprehension Excellent spelling Attention to detail Must be able to work with both Ophthalmologists and Optometrists Willingness to collaborate with teams Positive growth mindset Understanding of Ocular Anatomy and Eye Diseases Knowledge of Ophthalmic Medical Abbreviations Consistent performance
