Oxy’s Summer Intern Program runs from May to August for a full 12 weeks. As an Oxy intern, you will have the opportunity to experience real-life projects with hands-on participation in Oxy’s core businesses. Your summer project will be designed to add value to our operations while providing an opportunity to observe your skills and competencies in action. Oxy interns are paired with a manager and mentor in order to provide technical guidance throughout the project timeline. In addition to attending training and development courses, lunch and learns, field trips, and social activities, interns will be given the chance to meet with Oxy executives and leadership throughout the internship. Description: Join our team and gain hands-on experience in providing electrical engineering support to Oxy’s field-based Oil & Gas operations in the West Texas and New Mexico Permian Basin Region. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on various initiatives, including:
Supporting production facilities with the design, specification, commissioning/startup, and operation of surface equipment with a voltage rating of 4kV and below.
Assisting in electrical distribution system planning and operational support for systems ranging from 12.47kV to 24.9kV, including system modeling, transient studies, selective coordination studies, reliability studies, and SCADA deployment.
Participating in investigations on electrical system failures and transient disturbances and helping develop preventative maintenance initiatives to reduce future system impacts.
Developing software-based tools for field-based personnel to facilitate faster storm outage response, failure/outage tracking, system reliability metrics, system GIS information, and preventative maintenance tracking.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or EECS.
Expected graduation date between December 2026 - August 2028.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.85 on a 4.0 scale.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
High level of initiative and ability to solve complex issues with minimal supervision.
Collaborative style and adaptability to diverse teams and situations.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, and computer programming is a plus.
Understanding of electrical multi-phase motors and motor starting techniques is a plus.
Knowledge of electrical system protection philosophies or electrical protection relays is a plus.
