Quaker Valley Foods is a leading provider in the foodservice industry, dedicated to delivering quality products and exceptional service. We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Transportation Manager to support our transportation operations and ensure efficient delivery of our food products.
The Assistant Transportation Manager will assist in managing all aspects of transportation operations, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with various departments. This is an office position but also requires the ability to work safely in truck yards as well as visiting accident scenes and visiting customer locations as needed.
- Operational Support: Assist the Transportation Manager in overseeing daily transportation operations, including route planning, scheduling, and dispatching.
- Team Leadership: Support and supervise transportation staff, providing guidance and training to ensure high levels of performance and safety.
- Customer Service: Collaborate with the sales team to address delivery issues, ensuring timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies. Promote a culture of safety within the transportation team.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor delivery performance metrics, analyze data, and assist in implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Fleet Management: Assist in managing the transportation fleet, including vehicle maintenance schedules and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with warehouse, inventory control, sales and procurement teams to coordinate logistics and inventory management.
- Reporting: Prepare and present reports on transportation performance, costs, and operational efficiency to management.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve transportation-related challenges, including delays, route adjustments, and staffing issues.
- Accident Investigation: Complete accident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Observations: Ability to complete on-road observations as well as in cab ride a longs as needed.
- Road Test: Conduct road tests as needed.
Requirements
- Education: High School diploma, bachelor’s degree or related field experience.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in transportation or logistics, preferably in the food service industry.
- Availability: Able to be flexible with schedules including Saturday and Sunday.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team while maintaining a positive work environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members and other departments.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess transportation performance and implement improvements.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with transportation management software and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of DOT and FMCSA regulations and safety compliance requirements in transportation
