Position Overview:

The Inventory Auditor plays a vital role within the Supply Chain team by ensuring the accuracy of warehouse inventory data through rigorous physical audits and reconciliation with the Warehouse Management System (WMS). This role is responsible for maintaining inventory integrity, minimizing discrepancies, and supporting efficient warehouse operations. The Inventory Auditor conducts ongoing cycle counts, performs root cause analysis on variances, collaborates cross-functionally with Inventory Control and Warehouse Operations, and helps execute annual physical inventories. This hands-on role supports continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process gaps, reporting on audit findings, and helping improve system data reliability.

 

Key Responsibilities:


1. Inventory Auditing & Cycle Counting

  • Conduct physical counts of inventory and reconcile with WMS system.
  • Audit bin locations for accuracy relative to specific parts and item replacement.
  • Perform immediate audits in response to inventory discrepancies or system errors.
  • Maintain detailed audit records and report variances promptly.


2. System Reconciliation & Data Accuracy

  • Identify and correct discrepancies between physical and system inventory.
  • Work with Inventory Control to resolve mismatches in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Investigate shipping, receiving, and picking variances to validate inventory integrity.


3. Audit Reporting & Documentation

  • Generate audit reports internal teams and management review.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of audit findings, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Support compliance with inventory-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).


4. Annual Physical Inventory & Planning

  • Assist in preparing, executing, and reconciling annual physical inventory counts.
  • Support continuous improvement of inventory accuracy processes throughout the year.


5. Warehouse Collaboration & Support

  • Work cross-functionally with warehouse operations and inventory control teams.
  • Respond to internal count requests from the Supply Chain team.
  • Communicate updates, root causes, and process improvement ideas to management.


6. Safety, Equipment, and Operational Readiness

  • Operate forklifts, cherry pickers, or other material-handling equipment as needed.
  • Follow warehouse safety standards; work in elevated areas without discomfort.


7. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Reporting Structure:

  • Reports directly to the Inventory Control Manager.
  • This position has no direct reports.






Requirements

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in inventory control, warehousing, logistics, or manufacturing is required. Experience with order pulling, cycle counting, and inventory reconciliation is preferred. Familiarity with warehouse operations, shipping/receiving processes, and working in fast-paced distribution environments is essential.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Additional certifications in inventory management, supply chain, or warehouse operations are preferred. Equivalent work experience in a related field may also be considered.
  • Skills: Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization, and mathematical ability. Candidates should possess effective problem-solving and communication skills, particularly in reporting audit results and explaining inventory discrepancies. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time efficiently is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word, is required. The role also demands accuracy in documentation, strong observational skills, and adherence to audit protocols.
  • Knowledge: The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of warehouse inventory processes, bin management, and cycle counting procedures. Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), data reconciliation techniques, and basic root cause analysis for inventory discrepancies is important. A working knowledge of shipping/receiving workflows, product movement, and inventory accuracy best practices is expected. Experience with safety procedures and inventory quality control is a plus.
  • Technology: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience with warehouse software and inventory scanning systems is preferred. Ability to quickly learn and navigate WMS platforms and other inventory tracking systems is essential for success in this role.



Physical Requirements:

This role is physically active and requires regular movement throughout the warehouse during the shift.

  • Mobility: Ability to move throughout warehouse and inventory storage areas, including climbing on equipment or reaching elevated bins.
  • Standing and Walking: Frequently required during inventory audits, cycle counts, and warehouse inspections.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Regularly required to lift, carry, or move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Posture and Motion: Frequent use of handheld scanners and warehouse equipment; occasional bending, reaching, climbing, and use of ladders or lifts.
  • Vision and Hearing: Close and distance vision required for reading labels, scanning barcodes, and identifying part numbers; must be able to hear and communicate effectively in warehouse and team environments.
  • Work Environment: Warehouse setting with moderate to high noise levels, frequent use of forklifts and other material-handling equipment; occasional exposure to outdoor temperatures, dust, and inventory packaging materials.
  • Travel Requirements: Regular travel between DCs may be required. Occasional visits to offsite storage or third-party facilities may occur.
