Description

The Greater Burlington YMCA is seeking a Director of Health and Wellness to lead our wellness programs and inspire healthier lives for youth, adults, seniors, and families in our community. This is a key leadership role responsible for developing innovative wellness programming, driving member engagement, and cultivating strong staff and community relationships.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Lead & Supervise: Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate wellness staff, ensuring excellent performance and strong professional growth. 
  • Develop Programs: Oversee new and engaging health and fitness initiatives for all ages, with a focus on increasing member retention and inclusivity. 
  • Engage Members: Support new members with personalized wellness coaching and orientation to build strong connections. 
  • Ensure Safety: Train staff on emergency protocols, oversee equipment inspections, and maintain a safe and welcoming environment in wellness spaces. 
  • Build Community: Cultivate partnerships with local corporations, community organizations, and Y departments to expand wellness opportunities. 
  • Monitor Performance: Analyze program data, attendance, and member feedback to improve services and inform long-term planning. 
  • Stay Involved: Provide at least two hours per week of direct service on the wellness floor to stay connected with members and staff. 

Requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications to be eligible for the starting rate of $55,053.00 annually. Additional compensation is determined based on experience and education aligned with the preferred qualifications. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in health science, fitness, physical education, nutrition or similar field.  
  • 1-2 years of management experience 
  • Experience with fitness equipment usage procedures and maintenance.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Ability to provide excellent member engagement, listen, be attentive, problem solve quickly efficiently and be fair. 
  • A team player with strong motivation and initiative. 
  • Ability to work within a diverse population of employees and members.  
  • CPR/First Aid certification required in first 30 days of employment. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Current certificate in fitness from a nationally recognized organization (ACE, NCSA, AFAA, ACSM, etc.). 
  • Experience using database systems, Daxko, Zoomshift and MindBody. 
  • Completion of DEI-specific training, coursework, or certification, with a minimum of 40 hours or the equivalent of a college course.

  • Ability to perform safe fitness techniques including proper bending, lifting, squatting, running, jumping, and walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Safe use of fitness equipment.
  • Ability to be on feet coaching and instructing members and instructors for the entirety of the training.  
  • Must be able to demonstrate all exercises including fitness balls, medicine balls, dumbbells, barbells, etc.
