This is a great opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design military quality components, products, and systems. Program activities are associated with submarine acoustic programs. Education:
Bachelor’s degree (or advanced degree) in Mechanical Engineering required from an accredited university.
Experience Level:
Mid-level with 3 – 6 years of experience.
Travel:
Required annual travel less than 10%
Job Responsibilities:
· Conceptual design, research and analysis of components to support electro-mechanical assemblies and test fixtures
· Develop, review and update engineering and detailed drawing (level three) assembly and fabricated item design drawings using 3-D CAD tools in support of hardware product definition
· Create and maintain product Bills of Material (BOM) using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tool
· Ensure design compliance with system, safety, quality requirements; Perform trade studies on material selection and integration
· Synthesize and evaluate design solutions to meet system requirements and evolving product maturation
· Maintain product baseline through configuration management of established engineering change control process
· Documentation and drawings shall be comprised of but not limited to: Assembly and Fabricated Item drawings, family trees, associated lists, Interface Control Document (ICD), and Source Control Drawings (SCD)
· Work across and support a variety of functional groups across product life cycle including program management, systems, software and electrical engineering, material management, manufacturing, and test
· Lead creation and delivery of product Technical Data Package (TDP) to customer
· Support product acceptance testing such as Performance Verification Testing (PVT), Environmental EMI/EMC Qualification (EQT), and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
· Support design and develop of hardware test beds in support of acceptance testing
· Perform submarine fleet support of Sedna products as required – some travel may be required
Basic Qualifications:
· Typical education and experience or equivalent combination: Bachelor's; 3-6 years of related professional experience
· Strong proficiency in 3-D Computer aided Design (CAD) software (Preferably Solidworks) and Product Data Management (PDM) systems
· Strong knowledge and experience with Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T)
· Knowledge of applicable ASME Y14 drawing and drafting standards (e.g., .5, .100, .24, .35, .34 or as applicable)
· Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft products – Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word
· Strong proficiency with technical, MIL-SPEC standards, and manufacturing capabilities
· Basic understanding for Design to unit Cost (DTUC), Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
· Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner both in groups and independently
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Knowledge of material science and manufacturing processes
· Experience with component selection and serviceability / maintenance
· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to details
· Highly motivated and organized. Able to work multiple tasks concurrently, performing tasks both independently and collaboratively
Desired Qualifications:
· Navy or other DoD product development experience in designing to meet environmental qualification requirements e.g., shock, vibration, structure and airborne noise temperature and humidity
· Experience with Acoustic Rapid COTS Insertion (ARCI) systems
· Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) training and/or working experience
· ERP Deltek Costpoint application experience
· Experience with cable design, manufacturing and installation
