Looking for a new and exciting opportunity?  We are looking for two Vehicle Engineer/Specialist, Mechanical to join our team!

What You Will Do

 

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Mechanical, you will provide your expertise in relation to engineering work associated with the design, operations, maintenance, rehabilitation and procurement of the TTC's subway vehicles and associated equipment. You will take professional responsibility for engineering work as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).

 

Other responsibilities of your role will include:

 

  • Performing a variety of mechanical engineering duties related to the maintenance of TTC’s revenue and non-revenue subway vehicles and associated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and structural, equipment
  • Preparing complete technical specifications, reports and detailed design and/or manufacturing drawings relating to mechanical components of non-revenue and revenue subway vehicles and associated equipment
  • Investigating, diagnosing, and performing failure analyses of complex mechanical systems and issues
  • Coordinating, directing and guiding relevant TTC staff and/or consultants, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers in section specific design work, equipment or systems; resolving design issues to ensure compliance with TTC design standards and specifications.
  • Compiling cost and quantity estimates for specific projects, programs and budget purposes; assisting with the preparation of budgets/cash flows and monitoring where necessary to meet project and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Initiating relevant procurement process, reviewing technical proposals and quotations from consultants for compliance with branch requirements, evaluating tenders, recommending for award and monitoring progress.
  • Providing technical support and engineering guidance to relevant staff on a 24-hour basis as required.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

 

  • Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Your application will demonstrate directly related mechanical engineering experience.  Directly related engineering experience with transit rail vehicles is preferred.
  • Your registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) as a licensed Engineer, or your progress with the ability to obtain a P.Eng license within 1 year of hire will be required.  Your job title and pay will be commensurate with your experience.
  • You will have sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, methods and practices with specific knowledge in the areas of drafting, tolerances, dimensioning, hydraulics, pneumatics, metallurgy, welding, stress analysis and mechanical analysis.
  • You will also have a basic understanding of electrical/electronic technology.
  • You will have effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  Additionally, you will have sound judgement supported by well-developed technical, analytical, problem-solving and technical writing skills.
  • Your proficiency in the use of computers and your working knowledge of applications related to the work such as CADD, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, etc. will be beneficial to you in this role.
  • A valid non-probationary class “G” (or higher) Province of Ontario Driver’s License is preferred as the successful candidate may be required to travel between TTC work location, supplier facilities, etc. for meetings and other business needs.
