As an Engineer I in the Mechanical Plumbing Lab, you will be responsible for conducting a wide variety of testing on plumbing products to industry standards. In addition, you’ll be the technical representative for SOP creation, report writing, and assist in all internal/external audits while having a firm understanding of all testing within the Mechanical Plumbing Lab. This role actively contributes to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline testing, improve quality, and enhance safety.
Responsibilities
- Perform high level laboratory testing with minimal supervision
- Thorough understanding of data analysis and software
- Possess strong mechanical / electrical aptitude
- Maintain/organize assigned workload to meet specific due dates
- Prepare and record all data per ISO 17025 requirements
- Create, review and update SOPs as necessary
- Monitor and maintain assigned lab equipment for calibrations and other lab needs
- Give and receive continuous trainings
- Crosstrain in other lab areas to alleviate the workload when high sample volumes are experienced.
- Maintain a clean work environment and 6s areas
- Assure adherence to all safety/health policies and procedures
- Be a Technical Representative for all areas in Mechanical Plumbing
- Respond to internal/external client inquiries
- Research, create, and develop sampling, templates, and testing requirements for specific standards
- Assist with sample review
- Assist with internal/external audits
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
- Ability to read, interpret and follow standards, SOP’s and test methods
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Highly motivated in completing assignments correctly and on schedule
- Great attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a high paced environment.
- Proficient in the use of PC/Windows software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with plumbing fixtures, piping, and pumps.
- Proficient with laboratory instruments / equipment (DAQ systems, life-cycle fixtures, pressure testers, flow meters, etc.)
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline
- 5+ years Laboratory experience utilizing test standards, methods and data analysis software
- Proficient with laboratory QA/QC programs
- Experience with internal/external audits
- Exposure to process improvement practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Light to heavy physical effort required
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Working with size equipment and tools
- Safety glasses and steel toes must always be worn in lab areas.
- Proper PPE (gloves, hard hats, face shields) needed during specific testing
- 80% lab work / 20% desk work
