As an Engineer I in the Mechanical Plumbing Lab, you will be responsible for conducting a wide variety of testing on plumbing products to industry standards. In addition, you’ll be the technical representative for SOP creation, report writing, and assist in all internal/external audits while having a firm understanding of all testing within the Mechanical Plumbing Lab. This role actively contributes to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline testing, improve quality, and enhance safety. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform high level laboratory testing with minimal supervision
  • Thorough understanding of data analysis and software 
  • Possess strong mechanical / electrical aptitude 
  • Maintain/organize assigned workload to meet specific due dates 
  • Prepare and record all data per ISO 17025 requirements
  • Create, review and update SOPs as necessary 
  • Monitor and maintain assigned lab equipment for calibrations and other lab needs
  • Give and receive continuous trainings
  • Crosstrain in other lab areas to alleviate the workload when high sample volumes are experienced.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and 6s areas
  • Assure adherence to all safety/health policies and procedures
  • Be a Technical Representative for all areas in Mechanical Plumbing
  • Respond to internal/external client inquiries
  • Research, create, and develop sampling, templates, and testing requirements for specific standards
  • Assist with sample review
  • Assist with internal/external audits
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline 
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow standards, SOP’s and test methods
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated in completing assignments correctly and on schedule
  • Great attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a high paced environment.
  • Proficient in the use of PC/Windows software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with plumbing fixtures, piping, and pumps. 
  • Proficient with laboratory instruments / equipment (DAQ systems, life-cycle fixtures, pressure testers, flow meters, etc.) 
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years Laboratory experience utilizing test standards, methods and data analysis software
  • Proficient with laboratory QA/QC programs
  • Experience with internal/external audits
  • Exposure to process improvement practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Light to heavy physical effort required
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. 
  • Working with size equipment and tools
  • Safety glasses and steel toes must always be worn in lab areas.
  • Proper PPE (gloves, hard hats, face shields) needed during specific testing
  • 80% lab work / 20% desk work
