JOB SUMMARY: In this role, you will help sustain Mennel’s tradition of excellence established in 1886 as well as support our food safety programs and mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. The purpose of this position is to be responsible for assisting the Director of EHS in the development, implementation, and administration of effective EHS strategies, programs and initiatives to comply with all applicable EHS regulations and standards, including those from OSHA, EPA, DHS, NFPA, IFC as well as any other state, local, and corporate requirements.This position provides technical expertise and coordination to drive continual improvement within Mennel’s overall Environmental, Health, and Safety program. This position is also designed to be flexible and cross-functional and will be utilized to fulfill duties and tasks associated with all EHS regulatory compliance standards that apply.  


PRIMARY WORK SHIFT: Works shift as assigned and overtime as required. 

Monday through Friday 8AM – 5PM.  Will vary, depending on workload 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without accommodation.  

  • Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and attend all required training sessions. Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition.
  • Execute all EHS regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Prioritize activities to achieve and maintain EHS compliance and excellence within Mennel EHS programs.
  • Continually evaluate all locations to identify and abate non-compliant programs, procedures, and other exposures.
  • Correctly report, investigate, and coordinate corrective actions for EHS incidents.
  • Maintain specific Environmental Permits including:
    • Risk Management Plans
    • Air Permits (non-title V)
    • NPDES Permits
    • Construction site air and stormwater permits/management
    • SPCC
    • Other applicable permits
  • Lead, develop, and write EHS policies and programs aligned with current management system methodology.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS initiatives, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Subject matter expert in multiple EHS programs (RMP, PSM, Air, Water, Waste, Industrial Hygiene, etc.) for all locations.
  • Be a resource and act as a liaison between Mennel and various regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct periodic EHS training with affected employees.
  • Coordinate proper hazardous and universal waste disposal for all applicable locations.
  • Assist Director of EHS with other department duties as necessary, and/or as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory duties. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.  

  • A minimum of a 4-year college degree in an EHS field or related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of progressive work experience in EHS, safety management, environmental management, or related field. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in EHS standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent technical writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Must have solid communication skills and be able to interact and communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be a self-starter and have the capability to work independently.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the basic principles of food safety and sanitation, good manufacturing practices, industrial hygiene practices, proper chemical handling methods, electrical safety, industrial maintenance processes and fire prevention techniques. 
  • Must have excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Marplot, RMPcomp, some HTML preferred).

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to conditions that are typical to a fast- paced manufacturing environment, including: moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions; employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in the presence of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection. Work involves exposure to common wheat allergens.
