General Summary:
The Director of Technology Infrastructure is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and management of the organization’s technology infrastructure, ensuring that it supports the organization’s business objectives efficiently and securely. This role involves leading a team of IT professionals to maintain and enhance the organization’s network, server, data center, cloud, and storage systems. The Director of Technology Infrastructure will work closely with senior leadership to develop strategic plans for technology deployment, ensure optimal performance, and drive continuous improvement in the organization's IT infrastructure.
The Director will also be responsible for implementing best practices for security, disaster recovery, and system upgrades, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of all IT infrastructure systems. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking to align the technology infrastructure with the evolving needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the IT infrastructure team to design, implement, and support the organization’s technology infrastructure.
- Develop and execute the technology infrastructure strategy in alignment with business goals.
- Oversee the management of servers, networks, databases, cloud services, and other critical technology platforms.
- Ensure systems are secure, reliable, scalable, and optimized for performance.
- Collaborate with other departments and leadership teams to assess and address technology needs.
- Develop and manage budgets for infrastructure projects and operational expenditures.
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for hardware, software, and services.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely resolution.
- Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans to minimize downtime.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend improvements.
Requirements
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals, including systems engineers, network administrators, and support staff, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Develop performance metrics, conduct performance reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Provide strategic direction and ensure staff are trained on new technologies and best practices.
Technology Infrastructure Strategy and Planning
- Design and implement the technology infrastructure strategy to ensure it supports business needs and aligns with long-term objectives.
- Oversee the planning, design, and execution of IT projects related to infrastructure, including server upgrades, data center expansions, and cloud migrations.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to assess future infrastructure needs and ensure scalability.
Infrastructure Management
- Oversee the management and optimization of all technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, cloud platforms, databases, and storage systems.
- Ensure all systems operate efficiently, with minimal downtime, and meet performance and security standards.
- Implement proactive monitoring systems and conduct regular performance reviews of hardware and software resources.
Security and Compliance
- Ensure the security of infrastructure by implementing and maintaining cybersecurity measures, including firewalls, encryption, and access controls.
- Develop and enforce policies for data protection and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and address potential risks.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure rapid recovery in case of infrastructure failure or security breaches.
- Regularly test disaster recovery procedures and ensure systems are regularly backed up and retrievable.
Vendor Management and Budgeting
- Manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and service providers, ensuring high-quality service and favorable contract terms.
- Oversee procurement processes, negotiate contracts, and evaluate vendor performance to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Develop and manage budgets for infrastructure projects and ongoing operations.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with other departments, including development, operations, and business units, to ensure technology infrastructure supports overall business objectives.
- Communicate infrastructure plans, issues, and progress to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending and implementing innovative solutions to improve infrastructure efficiency and performance.
- Lead initiatives to enhance system capabilities and reduce costs through technology improvements, automation, or cloud adoption.
Project Management and Execution
- Manage complex infrastructure projects, from initial planning and budgeting through to execution, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting
- Implement comprehensive monitoring systems to track infrastructure performance, identify potential bottlenecks, and optimize system performance.
- Lead the troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
Education and Certifications: Director of Technology Infrastructure
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, such as:
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Network Engineering
- Systems Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Business Administration (with a focus on IT or technology management)
Master’s Degree (preferred but not required), such as:
