Culinary Operations Manager
The Culinary Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing food service operations at the Sonia Gutierrez Campus cafeteria while also managing ordering and inventory systems that support the Culinary Arts training program. This position ensures efficient kitchen operations, high standards of food safety, and reliable logistical support for instruction, events, and community food initiatives. Reporting to the Director of the Culinary Arts Academy, the Culinary Operations Manager supervises kitchen staff, coordinates procurement and inventory, and provides operational support that contributes to student learning and a well-functioning campus food program.
Responsibilities
Food Service Operations (Cafeteria Management)
- Oversee daily cafeteria operations, including food preparation, service, and cleanup.
- Supervise kitchen staff, including scheduling, task assignments, and training.
- Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, and safety regulations.
- Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion control to maintain consistent standards.
Logistics & Inventory Management (Training Program Support)
- Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory of food, materials, and supplies for both cafeteria operations and Culinary Arts Academy classes.
- Track and reconcile supply usage to ensure instructional kitchens are fully equipped for student learning.
- Maintain accurate records of food and supply costs to support budget oversight.
- Work closely with instructors to anticipate instructional needs and prepare distribution of food and equipment for labs and events.
Event & Program Support
- Coordinate food preparation and service for campus-wide events, cultural celebrations, and community food initiatives.
- Assist with special projects related to culinary operations and instructional support.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth execution of student showcases, catering requests, and other school functions.
Administration & Reporting
- Process invoices and maintain up-to-date purchasing and inventory records.
- Provide routine updates on food service operations, supply needs, and staff performance to the Director.
- Identify and recommend operational improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.
- Manage and coordinate maintenance and equipment repair as needed.
- Maintain bookkeeping for the Food Service Department as well as the Culinary Arts Training Program to assist in budget development and compliance.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary Arts Training Program.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or related field; equivalent professional experience considered.
- 3–5 years of progressive kitchen or food service operations experience, including at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
- ServSafe Manager certification (or ability to obtain).
- Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation standards.
- Experience with inventory, ordering systems, and vendor relations.
- Ability to supervise and motivate a culturally diverse food service team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing supplies and logistics.
- Knowledge and experience using Windows, Internet Explorer, Google Suite and Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Customer-service oriented with flexibility to adapt to changing needs of a school environment.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred.

Salary ranges from $79,500.00 to $103,600.00 per year based on experience.
