INTRODUCTION:
The Advanced Security Guard is responsible for ensuring that all tribal property and visitors to Tribal Offices in the Siletz area are secure on each shift.
DUTIES:
- Patrol tribal property areas; check all doors, windows, and gates. Check for any irregularities.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to incidents at Tribal properties that require intervention.
- Answer alarms, investigate disturbances, and respond to emergency situations requiring security assistance.
- Warn persons of rule infractions (i.e. no camping allowed on tribal property, no skateboarding, no loitering, etc.) and notify authorities, as necessary.
- Notify authorities, if necessary, of any problems which arise. Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Unless directed by the CEO, Security guard will confine their patrols and building checks to the Tribe's property and buildings. CTSI has offices located in the downtown Siletz area.
- Maintain log throughout each shift and complete incident reports of any problems or irregularities.
- Participate in ongoing training and certifications that will enhance safety of the community.
- Communicate with the public, Tribal management, and emergency services as required.
- May serve as a member of the Safety Committee.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be minimum of 18 years of age. High School diploma or GED and two (2) years experience as a security guard or similar work. Ability to obtain applicable certification through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) within 12 months.
Knowledge of:
- Relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective security operations for protection of people, equipment, buildings and property on tribal land.
- Effective and safe restraint and engagement techniques.
- Effective de-escalation techniques.
Ability to:
- Perform essential duties efficiently and accurately without posing a safety threat to self or others with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work shift work that begins in the early morning and which can occasionally include weekends.
- Utilize situational awareness to accurately understand verbal and non-verbal cues during confrontations and which aid in de-escalation and appropriate response.
- Utilize clear verbal communication to convey instructions, warnings, and information during engagements with staff, clients, and visitors.
- Practice sound judgment and decision-making skills to weigh the costs and benefits of interventions and determine the safest and most effective course of action.
- Remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Be able to physically engage individuals while minimizing risks to all parties involved when necessary and legally justified.
- Observe, assess, and respond quickly to changing situations, including recognizing when physical engagement is necessary and when to disengage.
- Work in various environments while maintaining readiness for physical engagement.
- Be reliable.
- Frequently prepare clear and concise incident reports and shift logs in a legible manner.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Tracking data for reporting purposes.
Other:
- Must have no felonies/convictions other than a traffic offense within the past 10 years.
- Must possess a valid Oregon State driver's license, insurance and be eligible to drive a GSA Vehicle.
- Must be able to pass an extensive background check that includes criminal history, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
- Must become certified in first aid and CPR within 6-months of hire.
- Ability to obtaining training and certification for carrying and deploying less than lethal weapons such as Oleoresin Capsicum aka pepper spray or Conducted Energy Device otherwise known as Taser
- Ability to obtain and maintain requisite certification through Oregon DPSST.
