Assistant Program Safety Manager II – LAWA

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
KKCS is seeking an Assistant Program Safety Manager II to support the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Capital Improvement Program. This role works closely with contractors, LAWA inspection, and the Project Management Team to ensure assigned projects are implementing effective safety programs and meeting all contractual and regulatory safety requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and passionate about promoting safety excellence across large-scale construction projects.This is a full-time, onsite position at LAX with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM.
Key Job Duties
Essential Job Duties
- Collaborate with contractor safety teams, LAWA inspectors, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure effective safety program implementation.
- Conduct frequent project site walks (potentially multiple miles daily) to monitor safety compliance.
- Perform Task Hazard Analysis audits and report safety observations through LAWA ADG Safety platform.
- Review contractor safety plans, documentation, and performance in the field.
- Verify compliance with toolbox talks, orientation, daily inspection reports, accident/incident reporting, and training records.
- Attend project progress meetings, Safety Committee meetings, and monthly All-Hands Safety meetings.
- Prepare and deliver clear and effective safety reports and presentations.
- Provide Cal OSHA training to LAWA staff (must be a Cal OSHA–authorized instructor within 6 months of hire).
- Support the advancement of the LAWA ADG Safety Program and engage with industry organizations (National Safety Council, trade/professional groups).
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma (or equivalent).
- Certification: Active Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or higher.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of safety management experience on vertical, tunnel, or heavy civil construction projects.
- Supervisory experience managing other safety professionals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (bi-lingual a plus).
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and work flexible schedules (including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and construction management software (Prolog, VEO, Procore, PMWeb, etc.).
- Must pass a federal background check and obtain a LAWA badge (RACCI, Customs, and Driver icons).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience conducting Cal OSHA training and/or CPR/First Aid Training.
- Demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, and training project/inspection staff.
Element-Specific Requirements/Notes
- May be required to work beyond regular shifts, on scheduled days off, or outside normal hours.
- Must be flexible to start shifts at any time of day or night, including weekends.
- Required to conduct Cal OSHA training for LAWA staff (must obtain Cal OSHA Authorized Instructor status within 6 months of hire).
- May be required to provide CPR/First Aid training.
- Must pass a federal background check and obtain a LAWA Badge with RACCI, Customs, and Driver icons.
- Must provide a vehicle capable of accessing the Airfield Operations Area (AOA).
