The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. 

 
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

 
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.
 

Responsibilities

Supervision

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the National Supply Chain Officer; and, in collaboration with relevant units at Headquarters and the Administrative Centres, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for supporting supply chain activities, guided by Supply Chain Management (SCM) objectives to  deliver quality goods/services to the beneficiaries at optimal  price and in a timely manner

Learning Objectives
  • Develop full understanding of supply chain methodologies and functions in IOM.
  • Develop technical skills on supply chain standards and tools used to support supply chain operations at global, regional and country levels.
  • Gain practical experience in procurement and logistics operations, including asset management, vendor coordination, and documentation processes aligned with IOM standards.
  • Develop administrative and organizational skills by supporting day-to-day office management tasks such as filing, supply organization, record maintenance, basic asset administration, and assistance with internal events.
  • Enhance communication and reporting abilities through participation in internal meetings, collaboration with partners, and contribution to situational and statistical reporting.
Training Components and Learning Elements
  • Support the Supply Chain Officer in managing procurement, logistics, and asset tracking activities, including vendor coordination and documentation.
  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving, storing, and dispatching goods in line with IOM procedures.
  • Attend internal meetings related to supply chain operations, procurement planning, and office administration.
  • Collaborate with IOM partners and service providers on logistics and supply-related matters.
  • Contribute to the development of situational and statistical reports on procurement and logistics activities.
  • Assist in day-to-day office management tasks such as filing, organizing supplies, maintaining records, supporting administrative workflows, and assisting with internal events.
  • Assist with basic asset administration duties, including tagging, tracking, and updating asset records.
  • Undertake other office and administrative tasks as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education
 
University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field from an accredited academic institution with one year of relevant professional experience; or

High school diploma with three years of relevant professional experience

 
Experience
  • Experience in procurement and logistics and working with vendors and service providers;
  • Experience with asset management process. 
  • Experience working with IOM/UN Procurement and Logistics Rules and Procedures is an advantage

Experience working in an international organization an advantage

 
Skills
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Ability to work with national and international institutions;
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise report; 
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills

Ability to establish realistic resource requirements to meet IOM needs

 
Languages
Fluency in English (oral and written).
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

  3. Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
  4. IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
  5. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority and discrimination based on gender, nationality, age, race, sexual orientation, religious or ethnic background or disabilities.
