The Technical Assistant for Financial Aid is a part time position that involves significant student, staff, and faculty interaction and requires a high level of confidentiality, collaboration, and professionalism at all times. The primary responsibility of this position will be to manage the financial aid portion of SUNY Reconnect (requiring strong math, bookkeeping, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail) while coordinating with other professions on campus to support students throughout their degree program. Other tasks to be performed include coordination of records and information management, event planning and execution, communications, BANNER Communication Module and Action Item Processing oversight, all while maintaining student’s FERPA and FTI (Federal Tax Information) rights and restrictions.Occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required. Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing. Typical office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required. Position Duties
Program and Information Management - 60%
- Create processes for SUNY Reconnect program management in the Financial Aid Office- this will include communications/presentations regarding eligibility and the application process, along with data tracking
- Review, package, and update student financial aid awards in Banner for changes to SUNY Reconnect eligibility.
- Stay updated on and adhere to all rules and regulations with SUNY reconnect
- Ability to analyze financial data and student financial aid packages to determine appropriate SUNY Reconnect dollar amounts
- Assist in maintaining website pages and MyCorning site, including announcement submissions
- Create social media content to be shared with Communications Team
- Create and maintain Banner Action Item Processing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to counsel and assist students and parents effectively
- Utilize Banner to present technical financial aid, personal budgeting, and billing information in order to answer a wide range of questions regarding topics in these areas
- Perform outreach to students with incomplete financial aid
- Create and give presentations- how to view student account/pay bill/ view and accept financial aid
Administrative - 10%
- Create and maintain student files (physical and digital)
- Scheduling of financial aid events and presentations
- Create and maintain files, databases, and reports for student groups
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and New York State financial aid regulations through prior work in a financial aid office
- Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner
- Possess strong math, bookkeeping, and analytical skills, and strong attention to detail
- Work successfully under pressure in an evolving, team-oriented setting, handling multiple tasks with differing timelines, and to prioritize work on projects happening simultaneously.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Banner, presentation creation, website editing and electronic communications.
- Handle high volumes of work during peak periods
- Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts
- Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions
- Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community
- Some night and weekend work will be required as well as travel to off-campus sites. A valid driver’s license or other reliable means of transportation is required.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Proficient with computers, including but not limited to MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Adobe Sign
Other Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or two (2) years of equivalent office experience
- Knowledge of Federal and New York State financial aid regulations through prior work in a financial aid office
- Valid driver’s license or other reliable means of transportation
Preferred Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience with Banner Financial Aid screens as well as federal and state aid systems
- Experience in bookkeeping/accounting
