The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking retirement professionals with strong leadership and decision-making skills for the role of Retirement Systems Coordinator.

The Retirement Systems Coordinator plans, organizes, and directs the activities of personnel engaged in processing payment of employee retirement contributions to retirement systems for Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) employees, school districts, and other educational institutions; maintains fiduciary responsibility for the correct annual reporting for retirement system members and advises clients on interpreting retirement-related legislation and regulation changes.

There are two vacancies in the School Financial Services Division.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Information system features and functions for generating and processing retirement-related reports and payments
  • Principles, practices, and trends of information systems
  • Concepts of systems integration and systems analysis
  • Principles and practices of organizational, personnel and project management
  • Provisions of the California Administrative Code, Education Code, and related state laws pertaining to the administration of retirement systems of certificated and classified employees
  • Capabilities, concepts and applications of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
  • Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS applications
  • Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA; principles of progressive discipline; and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements

Required Education and Experience
Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent number of college units (60 semester/90 quarter) or a higher degree with 16 semester or 24 quarter verifiable college coursework units in business administration, public administration, or a field related to the job requirements of this classification, from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Experience: Five years of experience processing, entering, and monitoring data and resolving related issues within CalSTRS and/or CalPERS and two years of supervisory experience. Supervisory experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently.

Additional Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required for some positions in this classification. A bachelor’s degree in a closely related field is preferred.

Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff, LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19. 

Selection Process
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a performance assessment and/or a technical interview

Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272).
