AUTO SHOP ASSISTANT, Classification I – HIGH SCHOOL
Hours: 7:45 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Job Goal: To positively represent the school and district by supporting the daily operations of the Auto Shop program, ensuring a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. The Auto Shop Assistant will provide general facility support and actively supervise high school students, promoting responsibility, safety, and skill development in a hands-on educational setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Staff members making application must meet or be able to meet “Highly Qualified” standards as outlined by the State and Federal guidelines
- High School diploma and 18 years of age at time of application
- Experience in a school setting, preferred
- Demonstrate proficiency in using email and Microsoft Word to support communication, documentation, and administrative tasks.
- Must be able to lift 10-40 lbs.
Reports to: Classroom Teacher/Building Principal
Performance Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support individual students or small groups by reinforcing skills and concepts introduced by the Auto Shop teacher.
- Assist with large group instruction and hands-on shop activities to promote student engagement and safety.
- Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, and transitions between instructional areas.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior in all interactions.
- Positively engage with students, staff, and community members through professional communication and conduct.
- Guide students in independent, enrichment, and remedial work as directed by the teacher.
- Operate, maintain, and assist students with classroom and shop equipment used for instruction.
- Prepare, distribute, and collect instructional materials such as workbooks, tools, and supplies.
- Monitor student behavior and alert the teacher to any concerns or notable observations.
- Provide support and guidance to substitute teachers, ensuring continuity of instruction and safety.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer use, including basic software and digital communication.
- Track and manage budget-related tasks, including accounts receivable and payable, as assigned.
- Maintain professional appearance and hygiene; wear appropriate attire including nonslip/nonskid footwear for safety.
- Support public relations efforts through email communication, event participation, and community outreach.
- Sort and organize laundry and shop materials as needed to maintain a clean and functional workspace.
- Actively monitor students across multiple areas including the auto shop, classroom, and supply rooms.
- Participate in after-school and evening events such as Festival of Arts, Arts Beats & Eats, and other school/community functions.
- Exhibit flexibility in scheduling to meet program and student needs.
- Maintain current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Participate in professional development and in-service training as assigned.
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
- Employee shall properly implement Board Policy 3122, Policy 4122, and Policy 2260 on non-discrimination and shall comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, particularly Part 1 104 of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (34 CFR) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Other duties as assigned by Classroom Teacher/Principal.
Terms of Employment: Classification I – 5-7 hours per day
Compensation: Entrance Level: $17.98: Maximum Level - $20.28
