Role Title: Technical Delivery Lead - GCP

BU/Segment: Banking / Data Management

Location:   London, United Kingdom (Flexible hybrid working)

Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract / Umbrella Contract

Summary of the role:

The Technical Delivery Lead will drive the end-to-end delivery of an enterprise-grade data platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring that programme objectives, stakeholder requirements, and delivery timelines are met. The ideal candidate will provide delivery leadership within a cross-functional environment, enabling teams to deliver high-quality solutions while aligning with business goals, GCP best practices, and modern data principles. This role emphasises orchestration, team coordination, and proactive risk management over hands-on technical engineering.

In addition to facilitating project delivery, the Technical Delivery Lead acts as a bridge between business and technology teams, translating evolving business needs into actionable delivery plans and ensuring the platform grows in line with organisational strategy and industry trends. The successful candidate will nurture a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across delivery teams and stakeholders.

As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:

  • Provide delivery leadership and oversight for GCP-based data platform initiatives, ensuring milestones are achieved and outcomes align with strategic objectives.
  • Orchestrate cross-functional teams—including data engineers, data architects, QA, and DevOps—fostering high performance, collaboration, and clear communication through the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Champion best practices in project delivery, resource management, and stakeholder engagement; identify and remove impediments to maintain velocity and quality.
  • Lead planning and execution of project phases (design, development, testing, deployment), coordinating dependencies and aligning priorities across teams.
  • Coordinate readiness of development, staging, and production environments in collaboration with platform and DevOps teams, ensuring smooth release and cutover processes.
  • Drive regular delivery reviews, retrospectives, and feedback sessions to identify improvement opportunities and implement lessons learned.
  • Support the evolution of solution architecture and technical roadmaps through partnership with GCP platform architects, ensuring alignment with organisational standards.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders, product owners, and PMO to track progress, manage expectations, and surface issues early.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for delivery and change management, providing guidance on delivery methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban), risk mitigation, and governance frameworks.
  • Oversee compliance with delivery and GCP governance frameworks, including testing strategies, data quality controls, and deployment pipelines.
  • Champion leadership qualities within the team, nurturing innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, and a positive, accountable culture.
  • Mentor team members and promote knowledge sharing, supporting professional growth and organisational capability.
  • Proactively identify delivery risks (timeline, resource, technical) and collaborate with stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Stay abreast of GCP ecosystem developments and evolving delivery practices, recommending improvements to strengthen future projects.

Qualifications and experience we consider to be essential for the role:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology delivery, data engineering, BI, or data architecture, with at least 3 years as a Delivery Lead or Technical Lead for cloud data projects (GCP preferred).
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and coordinating complex project deliveries in large-scale environments.
  • Solid understanding of delivery methodologies (Agile/Scrum, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines) and project management best practices.
  • Familiarity with GCP data services (e.g., BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub) and their role in modern data platforms.
  • Understanding of data architecture patterns (ETL/ELT, data lakehouse, star/snowflake schemas) and integration approaches in cloud environments.
  • Awareness of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, RBAC) in cloud delivery settings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • Experience in data analysis and profiling is an asset.

As part of a leading global analytics and digital solutions company, you can look forward to:

  • A competitive salary with private healthcare, critical illness life assurance at 4 x your annual salary, income protection insurance, and a rewarding pension.
  • At EXL, we are committed to providing our employees with the tools and resources they need to succeed and excel in their careers.
