ABOUT THE JOB
The post holder is responsible for supporting the effective administration under the Education Act 1996 and Children and Families Act 2014 of the statutory assessment of children and young people’s special educational needs, including their subsequent placement, monitoring and annual review.
Assistant Case Officer within the SEND team aid in the development and delivery and review of planning, performance, commissioning services for children, young people, their families and carers so that overall costs are reduced but the life chances of children and young people are maximised in line with the SEND Code of Practice and Children and Families Act 2014.
ACOs also manage the efficient operation of administration of caseloads to ensure the delivery of high quality, fully integrated services to children, young people and their families in line with the requirements of national legislation and guidance

ABOUT YOU
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be shortlisted:
- Knowledge and experience of the work of a local authority SEND service, and the impact SEND has on children and families.
- Strong administrative skills, proven by a work history in local authority administration.
- Experience and competency in assessment of children and young people with SEND, resulting in the planning, delivery and management of focused interventions and plans.
- Good knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and the statutory timelines
- Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of working in SEND or services linked to children, young people and families
- Experience of interacting with service users in a polite and courteous way

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
