Job Description


GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Clinical Data Abstractor (CDA) is responsible and accountable for efficiently and accurately submitting data collected from knee and hip replacement cases to the Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative Quality Initiative (MARCQI) and from spine cases to the Michigan Spine Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MSSIC). They are also responsible for attending all required meetings (including in-person and virtual) and for participating in quality improvement activities in collaboration with the Quality Manager.

This position reports to the Quality Manager.

This position has no direct reports.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting clinical data elements as defined by MARCQI and MSSIC.
  • Reliably attending MARCQI and MSSIC meetings, both in person and virtually. Must have access to reliable transportation as meetings can take place across the state of Michigan.
  • Participating in site audits.
  • Collaborating with members of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Collecting Patient Reported Outcome Measure surveys (PROMs).
  • Being an active participant in healthcare quality improvement initiatives.
  • Other projects and functions as assigned.


REQUIRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Current Michigan RN license or Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Health Informatics preferred

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with data collection in clinical research or quality improvement
  • Experience with quality improvement implementation
  • Experience with a Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI)

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an RN or RHIT
  • Working knowledge of quality improvement principles
  • Experience with CODE, and/or PatientIQ
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs)

MOTOR, SENSORY, AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
  • Employee must have normal or correctible range of hearing and eyesight.
  • Up to 5% travel

This will be around 20 hour/week, but will require flexibility on the days. It will also require up to 5% travel around the state of Michigan.
