The Packaging Manager oversees the end-to-end design, development, and execution of packaging across all brands. This role ensures packaging aligns with brand guidelines, customer requirements, and production timelines. The Manager leads a cross-functional team focused on packaging development, vendor communication, specification finalization, and timely project delivery. Responsibilities include workflow prioritization, cross-departmental coordination, and maintaining high standards for brand consistency, quality, and cost-efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the packaging team through workflow oversight, project prioritization, performance coaching, and weekly check-ins to track progress and reallocate resources effectively.
- Oversee the end-to-end development of packaging assets, including inserts, labels, and various components, ensuring packaging meets brand standards, licensee style guides, and customer specifications.
- Direct packaging layout and specification design work, providing creative and technical guidance while ensuring consistency across brands and packaging types.
- Manage communication with vendors regarding packaging specifications, timelines, sampling, quality expectations, and priorities.
- Finalize production-ready packaging specifications and packing instructions in coordination with vendors, ensuring clarity and accuracy to support manufacturing and shipping.
- Collaborate with Sales and Merchandising to provide packaging insights that support cost-effective solutions, accurate pricing, and retail requirements.
- Monitor packaging timelines in alignment with photography deliverables, attending cross-functional meetings to resolve scheduling conflicts and dependencies.
- Oversee proofing for soft and hard submits, ensuring timely, actionable feedback to vendors and escalating critical concerns to leadership when needed.
- Maintain Records of Standards and packaging libraries for all brands; ensure accurate documentation within PLM or relevant systems.
- Participate in weekly cross-functional meetings to communicate packaging progress, risks, and strategies to mitigate delays impacting production shipments.
- Promote a positive, collaborative work environment while upholding a high standard of professionalism, organization, and continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Business Administration, or related field; or a minimum of four years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five years of progressive experience in packaging, product development, or marketing, including supervisory or management responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, PLM systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable working with all levels of the organization and external partners
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
- Experience working with budgets and vendor cost evaluations
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable under pressure
- Possess a team-oriented mentality
