JOB DUTIES:
Work closely with Firm Partners to generate and develop design solutions for mid-to-large-scale institutional projects (higher education, government, and commercial building typologies) through all phases, applying knowledge of classical architecture or relevant historic precedents. Produce hand sketches of plans, elevations and perspectives for initial concept design and client presentations. Research and develop architectural details for exterior decorative elements and interior millwork components. Generate and oversee the project’s digital 3D models using Rhino, SketchUp, Revit, Enscape and Photoshop for design studies and visualization from buildings to detailed architectural elements. Lead the BIM (Building Information Modeling) process and direct the production of technical architectural drawing sets from Schematic Design to Construction Documentation. Conduct floor area tabulations of the projects for space planning in Excel and visual diagrams in AutoCAD, based on program, zoning and client requirements. Organize and lead coordination meetings with external consultants, including structural and mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and landscape architects. Identify, communicate, and recommend solutions to resolve any design conflicts or inconsistences with the work of external consultants. Review construction documents, shop drawings, material samples and mock-ups submitted by consultants and contractors. Attend site visits throughout the construction phase to ensure work remains aligned with design intent. Oversee the compliance of architectural design with zoning codes, regulations, and local laws. Delegate tasks to other team members to ensure project alignment with clients’ needs and schedule. Communicate directly with clients regarding design concepts, project progress and design decisions, leveraging InDesign to produce content for visual demonstrations. Manage project finances, allocating/monitoring hours and staffing resources to keep project budget and schedule on target. Serve as a Design Technology Liaison, providing feedback about the use of BIM software, and educate staff to help improving workflow and efficiency.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Architecture, a closely related field or foreign equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience as an Architectural Designer or related occupation. Architectural Licensure in the U.S. is required. Experience must include applying knowledge of historic and classical architectural elements to the design of mid-to-large-scale higher education, government, and commercial building typologies in the domestic U.S. market; Working across the following phases of the design process: Planning, Concept Design, Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documentation; Hand-sketching to develop floor plans, elevations, and exterior decorative elements in a classical style; Generating digital 3D models using Rhino, SketchUp and Revit for design studies from buildings to detailed architectural elements; Producing rapid and high-quality visualization of analyses and concepts using digital tools such as AutoCAD, Enscape and Photoshop; Utilizing Revit for technical drawing sheets in Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documentation phases; Working with and making the selection of façade materials, stone and brick façade detailing, interior millwork components detailing; Working with zoning codes, regulations, and local laws; Utilizing InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office Suite for internal and client presentations.
