About the Department
Position Duties
- Supervise activities and participants.
- Develop detailed plans for program activities and prepare properly and adequately; keep to a time line to ensure that set schedule is followed.
- Monitor progress of participants and assist with skills improvement and development.
- Maintain effective and consistent communication with program participants, supervisor, and other staff.
- Ensure all rules, regulations, and codes of conduct are adhered to and the safety of all participants is protected.
- Maintain appropriate levels of control, fairness, and consistency in all situations.
- Ensure that participants conduct themselves in an appropriate and safe manner.
- Resolve participant conflicts with tact and diplomacy.
- Keep proper records and prepare reports as necessary.
- Complete written reports on accidents/incidents that occur.
- Serve as a model for and promote responsible behavior.
- Create a safe, positive, and encouraging environment for youth participating in the program.
- Provide excellent service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Skill and physical ability to play and coach the game of soccer and general knowledge of the sport (rules, technique, drills, equipment, safety precautions, etc.).
- Some previous experience instructing and/or supervising soccer; prior experience providing instruction in fundamentals and skill development preferred.
- Previous experience working with high school aged youth.
- Valid full driver's license (not a provisional license).
- Valid, unexpired Medical Examiner's Certificate/Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish or other language (desirable).
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
- Or any acceptable, equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties and responsibilities.
