POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager of Behavioral Therapy Services provides strategic and clinical leadership for behavior analytic services. This includes direct patient care, oversight of Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBAs), and compliance with Behavioral Analyst Certification Board (BACB) standards. The Manager fosters a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Service 

o    Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of Nexus Health Systems

o    Upholds the Standards of conduct and corporate compliance

o    Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.

o    Adheres to all Nexus Health Systems policies on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)

o    Collaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

o    Implement system strategic plan and advise on service development for behavioral health programs.

o    Represent behavioral services in executive leadership forums and cross-functional initiatives.

o    Promote ethical leadership, transparency, and service excellence across teams.

    Clinical Excellence

o    Deliver direct patient care using evidence-based ABA practices, including conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).

o    Maintain a clinical caseload to ensure relevance and connection to frontline practice.

o    Actively support and participate in Multidisciplinary Treatment Planning (MTP) meetings to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.

o    Apply BACB’s Professional and Ethical Compliance Code and ensure all interventions are within the BCBA’s scope of competence.

o    Develop behavioral programming and services in alignment with system program goals.

o    Forecast staffing needs and optimize clinical workforce deployment.

o    Oversee creation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.

o    Oversee integration of clinical documentation and data systems.

o    Collaborate with other departments to ensure coordinated, interdisciplinary care.

o    Direct behavioral crisis response and ensure timely incident management.

o    Prepare strategic reports and present operational insights to senior leadership.

o    Provide supervision to the behavioral therapy department.

o    Provide structured, competency-based supervision to RBTs in accordance with BACB’s RBT Supervision Requirements.

o    Ensure supervision includes direct observation of service delivery, performance feedback, and modeling of appropriate behavior analytic procedures.

o    Maintain accurate documentation of supervision activities, including frequency, content, and outcomes, as required by BACB standards.

o    Conduct regular performance evaluations and support RBTs in professional development and ethical practice.

o    Ensure RBTs operate within their defined scope and receive ongoing training aligned with client needs and organizational goals.

    Patient Experience and Advocacy

o    Ensure behavioral interventions are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and patient-centered.

o    Advocate for patient rights and dignity in all aspects of care.

o    Establish feedback loops with patients and families to inform service improvements.

o    Deliver parent/guardian education consistently throughout the patient’s stay and at the point of discharge to ensure continuity of care and informed support.

    Quality Assurance and Compliance 

o    Ensures all activities adhere to healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

o    Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

o    Promotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.

o    Ensure compliance with BACB supervision requirements, including supervision training and documentation standards.

o    Lead audits, incident reviews, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

o    Monitor clinical outcomes and adjust programs based on data and stakeholder feedback.

o    Maintain documentation and reporting in accordance with BACB, HIPAA, and regulatory standards.

    Professional Growth and Continuing Education

o    Completes annual education requirements.

o    Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.

o    Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.

o    Participates in relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses to stay current with industry trends, healthcare regulations, and best practices.

o    Provide structured supervision and mentorship for RBTs, BCaBAs, and BCBAs in training, following BACB fieldwork and supervision guidelines.

o    Develop and implement training programs aligned with BACB’s Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline.

o    Foster a learning environment that supports certification, licensure, and leadership development.

    Finance

o    Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.

o    Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

o    Analyze cost-effectiveness of clinical programs and recommend resource allocation strategies.

o    Identify opportunities for revenue generation through service expansion.

    Performs other duties as assigned. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

    Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, or a related field required.

    Doctoral degree in Applied Behavioral Analysis, Psychology, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing BCBA, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

    Demonstrated experience in clinical program development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and staff supervision.

    Experience working with diverse populations and across multiple service settings.

    Experience working with pediatric, adolescent, or neurodevelopmental populations is preferred.

SKILLS:

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.

    Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, ideally in a hospital or clinical environment.

    Advanced knowledge of ABA principles, clinical assessment, and intervention design.

    Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.

    Proficiency in data analysis, clinical documentation, and electronic health records.

    Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead change in a dynamic environment.

    Commitment to ethical practice, cultural competence, and continuous improvement.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

    Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification  

    Must be certified in AHA BLS/CPR 

    Deescalation Training
