POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Sr. Relocation Agent at LJA Transportation, you will lead and coordinate all aspects of relocation advisory services in compliance with the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 (URA). This includes supporting displaced residents, businesses, farms, and nonprofits with empathy, accuracy, and professionalism.

The ideal candidate will also bring experience in acquisition (negotiations, title review, appraisal coordination), providing flexibility to assist across both disciplines as needed. This dual expertise strengthens our ability to deliver seamless and compliant right of way services on public infrastructure projects.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Coordinating relocation services for residential, business, and nonprofit displacees in accordance with the URA and TxDOT/FTA requirements.
  • Preparing relocation plans, notices, eligibility determinations, benefit calculations, and claims packages.
  • Meeting with displacees to explain rights, benefits, advisory services, and available options.
  • Conducting market research and preparing replacement housing or business site studies.
  • Coordinating with movers, vendors, and contractors for relocation activities and cost estimates.
  • Maintaining complete, accurate, and compliant case files and relocation diaries.
  • Preparing project reports, status updates, and documentation for client and agency review.
  • Collaborating with acquisition and appraisal staff to align schedules and minimize project impacts.
  • Supporting acquisition tasks such as negotiations or document review when required.
  • Advising clients and project managers on relocation requirements, timelines, and challenges.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • 4-year college degree (experience may substitute)
  • SR/WA, R/W-RAC, or equivalent credential from the International Right of Way Association (preferred)
  • Texas Real Estate Sales Agent’s or Broker’s license (or ability to obtain)
  • Active Texas Notary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing relocation assistance on public infrastructure projects, including residential and non-residential displacements.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 (URA) and applicable state/local relocation regulations.
  • Familiarity with real estate acquisition processes, including negotiations, title review, and appraisal coordination.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, businesses, and public stakeholders.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel as needed.

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:

  • Experience working on transit-related relocation projects funded by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
  • Familiarity with TxDOT right of way policies, procedures, and project delivery systems.
  • Knowledge of eminent domain processes and coordination with legal teams.
  • Certification such as R/W-RAC or SR/WA from the International Right of Way Association (IRWA).
  • Ability to support both relocation and acquisition efforts as needed.

MIND/BODY ENDURANCE:

  • Sit for extended periods working on a computer.
  • Attend project and client meetings, as well as site visits with displacees.
  • Work effectively under deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Drive long distances as needed to meet project demands.
