At a Glance!: The Nursing Simulation & Skills Lab Technician plays a vital role in supporting high-quality, hands-on learning experiences for students in our healthcare programs. Working closely with the simulation coordinator and faculty, this position helps prepare, maintain, and operate simulation and skills lab equipment, ensures safe and efficient lab operations, and assists in creating realistic learning environments that reflect current healthcare practices. This role requires a strong balance of technical knowledge, organization, and collaboration—ideal for someone with a background in healthcare, science, or technology who is also eager to contribute to student learning and success.

No two days will be the same, but regular responsibilities will include preparing simulation scenarios; cleaning, maintaining, and operating simulation and skills lab equipment; and managing inventory and ordering for both areas. Approximately 75% of the duties will focus on simulation, with the remaining 25% in the skills lab.
This position is categorized as an Instruction & Classroom Support Tech 2 under the State of Washington Class Specification and requires in-person work, with the occasional ability to work remotely.
The Nursing Simulation/ Skills Lab Technician position is 40 hours a week. The typical schedule for this position is 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The Simulation/Skills Lab Technician works under the direct supervision of the Simulation Coordinator (tenured nursing faculty), who will provide guidance on daily instructional support tasks. This position reports directly to the Dean of Instruction/Nursing Program Director, who provides oversight and direction in collaboration with the Simulation Coordinator.
Successful candidates typically start towards the beginning of the salary range and will receive scheduled salary increases.

Position Duties
Simulation (Approximately 75%)
- Prepares equipment, supplies, and materials for simulations as requested by the simulation coordinator.
- Assists the simulation coordinator and other simulation faculty with laboratory materials, supplies, or equipment.
- In collaboration with the simulation coordinator and simulation faculty, may write, edit, or modify laboratory handouts, manuals, or handbooks.
- Advises the simulation coordinator of potential problems with existing simulations or equipment.
- Operates and performs routine maintenance on simulation equipment under the supervision and/or delegation of the simulation coordinator.
- As delegated by the simulation coordinator, reinforces safety and proper handling/treatment of simulation equipment and supplies.
- Monitors all simulation laboratories to ensure compliance with safety policies.
- Assists with the development of equipment-related policies, including safety, operations, and maintenance.
- Estimates the quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed, in collaboration with the simulation coordinator, to maintain an adequate inventory of lab supplies.
- May assist with conducting literature searches and determining best practices used in healthcare simulation.
- In collaboration with the simulation coordinator, assists in preparing reports concerning simulation activities, equipment usage, and lab operations, as well as purchasing/ expenses.
- Assembles, organizes, interprets, and inputs lab data.
- Pursues professional development focused on supporting healthcare simulation.
- Performs other work as required under the direction of the simulation coordinator and dean/director.
- Reinforces safety and proper handling/treatment of skills lab equipment and supplies when working with students and campus service staff.
- Collaborates with faculty to estimate the quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed each quarter in the skills lab spaces.
- Performs routine maintenance on skills lab equipment under the supervision and/or delegation of the dean/nursing programs director.
- In collaboration with the simulation coordinator, assists in preparing reports concerning skills lab activities, equipment usage, and lab operations, as well as purchasing/ expenses.
- Assists with the development and delegation of tasks for student lab assistant(s).
- Performs other work as required under the direction of the dean/director.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in healthcare, healthcare technology, information technology, computer science, or a related science field with a strong emphasis on computer skills, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Ability to communicate complex technical information both verbally and in writing to a diverse audience.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
Experience working effectively with individuals from culturally and socioeconomically diverse communities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications, with a focus on spreadsheet management.
- Strong attention to detail, which plays a critical role in managing program data, organizing lab inventory, and maintaining laboratory equipment efficiently.
At least 1 year of experience working with computers in a technical, educational, or healthcare setting, including tasks such as troubleshooting, equipment setup, software use, or maintaining digital systems.
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, education-related field, or healthcare-related field.
Experience working with healthcare simulation equipment or in a lab setting.
Experience working with adult learners in either formal or informal settings.
