Job Overview:
The AmeriCorps Program Assistant will contribute to the planning and implementation of programs that encourage youth development in a positive and engaging environment. The role includes mentoring, supervising, and ensuring the safety of Club members during various activities, both onsite and offsite. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on youth in our community while earning an educational award and valuable work experience.
Essential Duties:
- Plan and implement quality programs for youth that promote learning, engagement, and creativity.
- Provide guidance and serve as a role model for Club members.
- Mentor and inspire youth, adults, and volunteers through creative processes.
- Maintain records of program participants, schedules, and attendance.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Supervise groups of at least 15 members during activities.
- Assist with serving prepared snacks and complete necessary program-related clerical and housekeeping tasks.
- Ensure the safety of all Club members at all times during program participation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Program Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead educational and enrichment programs that align with the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Illinois.
- Facilitate group activities, homework help sessions, and project-based learning experiences aimed at promoting academic growth and personal development.
- Collaborate with local school districts to enhance program partnerships, align educational goals, and support student success through shared resources and initiatives.
Time Commitment:
- Complete a minimum of 900 hours during the service term (09/01/2025 - 08/31/2026).
- Participate in mandatory Days of Service.
- Complete hours during direct service times at designated sites, including after-school programs, non-school days, special events, and family engagement activities.
Educational Award/Scholarship: $3,697.50 (upon completion of the service term, which can be applied toward college tuition or student loans)
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.
- Passion for working with youth and commitment to their development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Flexibility to work varying hours, including some weekends and evenings as needed.
