This position is based in the London office where we operate a hybrid schedule that has the option of working two days remotely each week.

Role Purpose:

You will be responsible for the profitable growth of our UK Construction portfolio as part of our UK Energy and Construction team.

In this role you will report to the UK E&C Underwriting Manager with a matrix reporting line to the Head of Construction, International.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Underwriting, strategic direction and profitable growth of the EII UK Construction Portfolio. This will include identifying segments of business to develop and Underwriting strategies and guidelines to support growth.

  • You will utilise both our Company and Syndicate platforms to access in appetite business, writing London Market Wholesale and Retail business.

  • Cultivate and sustain effective relationships with key brokers and clients. 

  • As well as working alongside your E&C colleagues, you will collaborate with colleagues across various lines of business to promote and succeed in cross-sell opportunities.

  • Collaborate and coordinate activities with other departments (e.g. Claims, Loss Control, and Accounting). 

  • As part of the Everest International Construction team you will support the Head of Construction across numerous projects such as pricing tool development, portfolio analysis and monitoring, and Regional strategies and collaboration.

  • Collaborate with Risk Engineering to continually develop risk assessment criteria and promote our risk engineering capabilities.

  • Work with Underwriting colleagues to identify and drive opportunities for process improvement and efficiency, recommending and implementing new procedures and programs as needed. 

  • Working alongside the Head of Energy and Construction and Ceded Re with respect to the E&C Reinsurance Treaty structure and execution.

Skills & Abilities:

To be effective in the role you must have:

  • Held Senior Underwriting roles, with experience in Industrial and Civil Infrastructure Construction Projects.

  • A technical background in both EAR and CAR.

  • Experience across London Market Wholesale and Retail construction business.

  • A proven ability to thrive within complex, matrixed organisations, effectively navigating and collaborating across multiple functions and levels.

  • Demonstrated expertise in establishing and nurturing effective relationships with brokers, clients and stakeholders.

  • Successfully navigated teams through change, fostering resilience and adaptability, while cultivating a high performing collaborative environment.

  • Demonstrated an ability to take calculated risks, consistently achieving favourable outcomes.

  • Excellent negotiation skills.

  • Strategic acumen in identifying opportunities and threats through thorough analysis of current and future trends, with an ability to comprehend the big picture.

  • Exceptional judgment and decision-making skills, utilising logic rationality and objectivity to make informed decisions.

  • Expertise in ensuring compliance with all internal management, regulatory controls, and external regulations.
