Title: Director, IT Transformation – Technology Enablement
Location: Preferred at one of our major IT hubs (Kalamazoo, MI; Flower Mound, TX; or Mahwah, NJ). We will also consider strong remote candidates based in the Eastern or Central time zones.
Travel: This is a global leadership role requiring 40–50% international travel across multiple countries.
The Director, IT Transformation, Technical Enablement is responsible for establishing and driving the strategic vision, overseeing design, implementation, and support of SAP S4/HANA under the RISE with SAP framework. The Director will build and lead a team focused on SAP platform readiness, development lifecycle optimization, innovation, and continuous technical improvement for SAP S/4HANA and corresponding set of applications across Stryker divisions, plants and geographies. This role will also drive governance, scalability, security, and high availability of all SAP systems in alignment with business objectives. They will partner and collaborate with executive leadership and various IT functional stakeholders to lead the execution of the agreed upon program releases and implementation of the SAP platform vision and strategy. This is a highly influential role that will play a strategic part in aligning our global portfolio planning and execution activities across IT.
Essential duties & responsibilities:
Own the technical enablement strategy for SAP S4/HANA in a RISE with SAP model, including public/private cloud hosting and hyperscaler integration.
Serve as the primary point of contact for SAP and strategic partners on RISE-related topics.
Manage the technical implementation of RISE with SAP including onboarding, SLAs, upgrades and integrations.
Align SAP’s Business Technology Platform (BTP), S4/HANA Cloud, and partner services with internal technical teams and transformation programs.
Oversee RISE tenant operations and performance metrics.
Lead negotiations with SAP and technology vendors for licensing, cloud hosting. SLAs, and managed services.
Collaborate with Procurement, Legal, Finance and IT Supplier Operations teams to manage contracts, renewals and service escalations.
Responsible for the delivery of the designated SAP solutions for E2E strategic and operational business processes across Stryker divisions, plants and geographies.
Responsible for all SAP Basis activities, including system administration, upgrades, performance tuning, and landscape management.
Develop and execute the long-term SAP technical roadmap aligned with enterprise strategy.
Evaluate and promote adoption of emerging SAP technologies (e.g., SAP BTP, Fiori, AI/ML, automation).
Establish and maintain the SAP Basis standards, policies, procedures, and best practices, and ensure adherence to them by the SAP Basis team and other key stakeholders.
Monitor and optimize the SAP system landscape and implement preventive and corrective measures to ensure its stability and reliability.
Demonstrate ability to cope with growing complexity and creativity in design by thinking outside the box.
Provide clear and effective communication to the program leadership team and Operational Steering Committee.
Build strong partnership with cross functional teams including IT technical & functional teams, Business functions, PMO and System Integrators.
Manages and coordinates with external suppliers and deployment partners to ensure they meet their contracted deliverables, agreed upon timelines, and metrics.
Helps to establish deployment metrics and ensures each division, function, and region are measuring pre and post “Go Live” success metrics.
Works closely with IT Service Delivery teams to ensure implementation of post-production support model and processes.
Ensures timely escalation and mitigation of issues and risks.
Conducts “lessons learned” with the Project Manager after each deployment to continuously improve the cutover and build-to-run transition model and strategy over the course of the program.
Perform activities following Stryker’s Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) framework and processes.
Manages resolution and communication of system production support issues with different stakeholders based on Stryker SLA’s.
Works closely with strategic solution partners, business process owners, architects/leads from other tracks and super users to close out every phase as part of deployment playbook or project methodology.
Provide guidance and mentoring to other Solution Managers, Solution Leads and Solution Analysts within the team or other project/program.
Identify opportunities to improve the systems process flow, performance and technical efficiencies.
Develop and build robust integration with Infrastructure, Security, Governance, Service Delivery, etc.
Financial focus on delivering activities on budget, leveraging time on value-driven activities and ensuring external resources meet contractual deliverables.
Special projects/assignments as required.
Education & special trainings:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or Business is required; however, candidates with significant, directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
A Master’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
Qualifications & experience:
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience deploying or delivering global programs with focus on in the SAP Technical space
Strong Preference towards candidates with 1+ Years of RISE SAP Experience
Experience in owning and building SAP applications and products
Minimum 5 years experience in people management and development.
Prior experience and demonstrated understanding of SAP or other complex ERP solutions with direct experience in system rollouts required.
Prior experience implementing SAP S4/HANA on the RISE SAP model, including negotiations with SAP.
Prior experience and demonstrated understanding of SAP Basis administration, including migration, upgrade, integration, and support of SAP applications and databases.
Prior experience with implementing and working within the RISE with SAP framework.
Experience and demonstrated understanding of global system rollouts – strategy, planning, vendor selection and implementation planning
Extensive knowledge of medical devices and/or pharmaceutical industry and basic knowledge of adjacent areas in terms of processes, organization, products and IT requirements
Ability to consider upstream and downstream process impacts and implications
Exhibits acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges
Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization structure with significant emphasis on collaboration and persuasion, rather than relying entirely on command and control is required
Ability to maintain strong relationships within Stryker Divisions and geographies
Ability to consider upstream and downstream process impacts and implications
Exhibits acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges
Versatility and willingness to work with constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
Experienced in enterprise solution methodologies, preferably in both traditional waterfall and agile approaches preferred
International experience and/or exposure working in other business functions preferred
Knowledge of Lean, ITIL, PPM, PMO, etc. standards and processes preferred
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Senior Management
Must be able to generate, explain, and present detailed schedules, objectives, reports, and other documentation accurately
Demonstrated ability to work cohesively across a cross functional and matrixed organization
Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
Ability to drive initiatives and projects independently from start to finish
Strong knowledge of Excel Advanced, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, Access DB, MS Project Suite (MPP/Visio/etc.)
Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills to a diverse set of audiences

- $149,000 - $250,000 salary plus bonus eligible + generally eligible for short-term and long-term financial incentives + benefits. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
