About the Department
This is an Open Competitive recruitment to create an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. Successful candidates are expected to work between ten (10) to nineteen (19) hours a week, five (5) days a week, and ten (10) months per school year. Schedule may vary in accordance with the specific needs of the school site.
DISTINGUISH CHARACTERISTICS
Arts Assistant I is an entry-level position, primarily supporting routine tasks and provides foundational experience in the arts program coordination.
The Arts Education Assistant 1 is distinguished from the Arts Education Assistant 1I in that it is designed for individuals who perform basic and routine tasks within the arts education program. Employees in this role assist with day-to-day operations, gaining hands-on experience while learning the fundamentals of arts program coordination. Work is performed under direct supervision, with guidance from higher-level staff as employees build their knowledge, skills, and independence in the field.
Position Duties
- Assist in setting up and breaking down necessary materials and equipment for rehearsals and performances.
- Support instructors and guest artist by preparing materials and supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of studios, classrooms, and storage areas.
- Perform basic clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, and managing sign-in sheets.
- Provide customer service to participants, including answering questions and giving directions.
- Support promotional activities by distributing flyers or updating social media as directed.
- Assists with supporting arts education activities, which may require working flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Music: Assist in setting up and breaking down rehearsal spaces, tuning instruments, distributing sheet music, and providing basic support to students and instructors. Help organize and transport equipment for performances.
- Theater: Support set construction, costume preparation, and backstage organization. Assist in basic stage management, prop handling, and scene transitions during rehearsals and productions.
- Dance: Help prepare dance studios, set up sound systems, and organize costumes or props. Assist with warm-ups, basic movement instruction, and performance logistics.
- Visual Arts: Prepare art supplies, set up workspaces, and help students with materials during projects. Assist in organizing and displaying artwork for exhibitions.
- Multimedia/Video Production: Set up and maintain cameras, lighting, and sound equipment. Assist students with basic video recording and editing tasks. Help organize digital media assets and maintain storage workflows.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Basic knowledge of arts-related supplies and equipment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Record keeping and filing practices and procedures.
- Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Excellent customer services skills.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, social media platforms).
- Lift and move supplies and equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Issue understandable instructions.

- Work with a variety of behavior and academic levels.
- Learn and apply new information and skills
- Organize and maintain office files
- Dress appropriately, in accordance with the work environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent; and
- A minimum of six (6) months experience in arts-related activities specifically related to the assigned program, or in a customer service capacity.
