About the Department

This is an Open Competitive recruitment to create an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. Successful candidates are expected to work between ten (10) to nineteen (19) hours a week, five (5) days a week, and ten (10) months per school year.  Schedule may vary in accordance with the specific needs of the school site.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Arts Education Assistant 2 position supports arts-related programs and activities within the Montebello Unified School District. Depending on the assigned program, employees in this role may work within various artistic disciplines, including music, theater, dance, media arts or visual arts. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of arts events, workshops, and educational programs, as well as maintaining materials, supplies and equipment. This position is grant-funded under Proposition 28 and is contingent upon the continued availability of funding. The scope of responsibilities, level of independence, and required experience vary within this classification.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Arts Education Assistant 2 is a more advanced position that requires greater experience and the ability to work independently, including taking a leadership role in specific projects.
  • The Arts Education Assistant 2 is distinguished from the Arts Education 1 in that it requires prior experience and a demonstrated ability to work independently. Employees at this level assume greater responsibilities, such as leading projects, coordinating program activities with minimal oversight, and providing guidance to Arts Education Assistant 1employees.

Position Duties

DUTIES

  1. Coordinate logistics for arts-related programs, including scheduling, supply management, and communication with instructors, students, and the community. 
  2. Oversee the inventory, organization, and ordering of materials, supplies, and equipment relevant to the assigned arts discipline. 
  3. Provide guidance and mentorship to Arts Education Assistant 1staff and volunteers. 
  4. Assist in developing promotional materials and managing program-related social media platforms. 
  5. Facilitate workshops, rehearsals, or events as needed, ensuring participant engagement and adherence to safety protocols. 
  6. Communicate effectively with artists, educators, vendors, and community partners to support program initiatives.  
  7. Compile reports and gather feedback for program evaluation and continuous improvement. 
  8. Encourage students to uphold discipline, professionalism, and commitment to the Arts program.
  9. Support Program-related fundraising and community outreach efforts.  
  10. Support Arts Education activities, which may require working flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends. 
  11. Comply with school district policies, safety protocols, and competition or performance regulations. 
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Depending on the assigned arts discipline, responsibilities may include: 
·   Music: Support the preparation, rehearsals, and performances of music ensembles, including band, choir, orchestra, and other musical groups. Assist with student instruction, maintenance of instruments and equipment, and schedule coordination. Provide individual and group instruction to enhance technique and performance skills. Coordinate logistics for competitions, concerts, and other public performances.
·   Theater: Assist with theatrical productions, including rehearsals, stage management, set design, lighting, sound, and costuming. Support students in script interpretation, performance techniques, and backstage operations. Facilitate auditions and help organize cast and crew responsibilities.
·   Dance: Coordinate dance rehearsals, performances, and choreography sessions. Assist students in mastering techniques, routines, and movement styles. Ensure proper maintenance of dance spaces and equipment. Facilitate performance planning and execution.
·   Visual Arts: Support classroom and extracurricular art activities by preparing materials, assisting with projects, and managing art displays or exhibits. Provide guidance on various artistic techniques and mediums. Ensure the proper care and organization of art supplies, tools, and equipment.
·   Multimedia/Video Production: Assist students in multimedia projects, including video production, digital editing, and content creation. Provide instruction in camera operation, lighting, sound recording, and post-production editing. Oversee media storage and assist with online content management. Support students in producing educational, documentary, and promotional videos for school and community platforms.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

  1. Basic knowledge of arts-related supplies and equipment.
  2. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Office administration practices and procedures. 
  5. Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 
  6. Record keeping and filing practices and procedures. 
  7. District rules, and procedures applicable to assigned areas of work.
  8. Instructional strategies used in teaching various arts disciplines. 
  9. State Visual and Performing Arts content standards.
  10. Variety of materials available for use in classroom instruction. 
  11. Basic terminology and vocabulary used in arts education.

Ability to:
 


  1. Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  2. Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, social media platforms).
  3. Lift and move supplies and equipment.
  4. Manage projects independently.
  5. Understand and follow written and oral instruction 
  6. Use tact, discretion and courtesy in dealing with sensitive situations. 
  7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District administrators, staff, parents, students, and others encountered in the course of work. 
  8. Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, in English and a designated second language as needed. 
  9. Organize and maintain office files. 
  10. Dress appropriately, in accordance with the work environment. 
  11. Assist with auditions as instructed to assess and place students in appropriate sections or role. 
Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Arts, Education, or related field preferred; and
At least two (2) years of experience in an arts-related role, event coordination, or educational setting.
