GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Buyer/Customer Service role has the primary responsibility of end-to-end supply chain management for assigned value streams. Other responsibilities include supporting material/product level revisions, interacting/coordinating with suppliers & customers on a variety of topics, and supporting other business functions as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as a point of contact for and liaison with customers, scheduling, logistics, and manufacturing departments.
- Collaborates with these departments to ensure schedules allocate available resources to best serve client or customer needs.
- Compares current and anticipated orders with available inventory of raw materials; uses judgment to anticipate demand for and to acquire or defer additional supplies as needed.
- Collaborate with outside supply vendors; ensure accurate and timely delivery of orders.
- Integrates sales orders with master schedule; coordinates availability of raw materials, supplies, equipment, and staff as needed to meet delivery dates.
- Place purchase orders with suppliers for the procurement of production material and maintenance items as required by forecast and the production schedule.
- Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of future potential problems.
- Determine and establish optimal inventory levels based on forecast, demand variation and material lead times.
- Assist in the preparation of the master schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to customer orders.
- Attend daily production meeting. Be prepared daily to discuss status of orders, delivery and any conflicts or potential issues with orders.
- Confer with department supervisors to determine status of orders.
- Work with Customers, Sales, Engineering, Planning and Management to ensure 100% on time deliveries.
- Prepare production and shortage reports.
- Coordinate material requirements between Purchasing and Manufacturing.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS
- 3 or more years of experience in a buyer/planner/material scheduler
- BS/BA in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, and Logistics preferred.
- Knowledge of forecasting, MRP, transportation, supply chain, inventory management and warehousing disciplines.
- Proficient with MS Office suite – particularly MS Excel
