POSITION SUMMARY
Technical Systems Integration (TSI) seeks a Mid-Level Operations Analyst with Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) expertise in Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) to support the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) Surface Warfare Technical Division (SWTD) in Dahlgren, VA. This specialized analytical role focuses on analyzing SSDS combat systems, developing tactical approaches, and conducting operational research to enhance amphibious and expeditionary warfare capabilities. The successful candidate will leverage extensive SSDS shipboard experience to support advanced analytical studies, system performance assessments, and capability development across SSDS-equipped platforms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
SSDS Systems Analysis & Development
-Review and provide recommendations on content and presentation for new/emerging Navy/Joint SSDS system concepts, tactics, techniques, and procedures publications
-Conduct research and evaluation to support the development of SSDS weapons and surveillance system capabilities, including the deployment of new or improved systems
-Monitor and assess performance of SSDS combat, weapons, and surveillance systems, ensuring they meet operational and technical requirements in contested and uncontested environments
-Validate and document that emerging SSDS technologies and combat systems components will close identified capability gaps for amphibious platforms
Technical Documentation & Presentations
-Make presentations and write technical reports describing objectives, procedures, and results of SSDS studies, analyses, experiments, and investigations
-Document new or improved techniques, monitoring processes, reporting systems, and statistical analysis methods for SSDS operations
-Support development of SSDS technical publications, system documentation, and capability assessments
-Present analytical findings to senior leadership, technical organizations, and amphibious warfare stakeholders
Combat Systems Development & Technical Collaboration
-Support Navy Combat Systems development processes with a focus on SSDS capabilities and amphibious warfare requirements
-Participate in Rapid Capability Development processes for SSDS systems and technologies
-Review and collaborate on Navy technical documentation related to SSDS systems and amphibious warfare operations
-Support Navy Test & Evaluation (T&E) processes and contribute to SSDS system testing and validation
Command & Control Analysis
-Identify, document, and present issues related to command and control between SSDS-equipped units, systems, and sub-systems
-Analyze integration challenges between SSDS and other ship systems, including coordination with amphibious warfare mission requirements
-Support development of solutions for multi-platform coordination and amphibious operations integration
-Assess command and control effectiveness during amphibious and expeditionary operations
Operational Data Analysis & Assessment
-Collect, analyze, and interpret operational, tactical, and SSDS system data from amphibious units including mission reports and performance metrics
-Analyze firing reports and data extraction efforts from real-world, Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E), and training events
-Conduct qualitative and quantitative assessment methods to support SSDS war-fighting readiness, capabilities, and capacity evaluations
-Support performance analysis and metrics development for amphibious warfare and expeditionary mission areas
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
-10+ years of military experience with a minimum 8 years in SSDS operations onboard SSDS-equipped naval ships
-Strike Group, Fleet, Major Training Command, or Systems Testing Command planning experience
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
-Qualified and experienced in watch stations with authority to employ SSDS Weapon System (Tactical Action Officer or Air Defense Warfare Coordinator)
-Must possess Tactical Action Officer Qualification letter
Required Technical Skills:
-Experience with qualitative and quantitative assessment methods supporting war-fighting readiness, capabilities, and capacity evaluations
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word)
-Experience in Navy Combat Systems development and Rapid Capability Development processes
-Experience in review and collaboration on Navy technical documentation
Required Competencies:
-Expert-level knowledge of SSDS operations, amphibious warfare tactics, and expeditionary combat systems
-Understanding of Navy Test & Evaluation (T&E) processes and system certification requirements
-Strong analytical and technical writing capabilities for complex SSDS system assessments
-Ability to conduct comprehensive performance evaluations and capability gap analysis for amphibious platforms
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Expertise:
-Experience with SSDS modernization programs and system upgrades
-Knowledge of amphibious warfare planning tools and expeditionary operations coordination
-Familiarity with joint and coalition amphibious operations and interoperability requirements
Domain Knowledge:
-Experience with Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) and Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) operations
-Understanding of amphibious warfare doctrine and expeditionary combat systems integration
-Knowledge of SSDS threat analysis and self-defense tactics for amphibious platforms
Professional Background:
-Previous assignment to amphibious warfare centers of excellence or specialized amphibious training commands
-Experience with SSDS system development, testing, or evaluation activities
-Background supporting amphibious research and development organizations or analytical studies

-Occasional shipboard environment support requirements during amphibious exercises and evaluations
