Position Summary:

As an Additive Manufacturing (AM) Materials and Process Engineer you’ll be at the forefront of aerospace and AM technologies. ADDMAN Advanced Metals has been actively innovating across various alloy classes utilizing namely laser powder bed fusion technology. You’ll lead the development of new processing strategies for materials ranging from ultra-high temp refractory alloys to functional soft magnetic materials and everything in between. This role will oversee internal development projects, government sponsored research, and customer material and part qualification campaigns. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include collaborating with internal and external customers on design of experiments, working internally or with suppliers to non-destructively and destructively characterize and test materials or feedstocks, analyzing and reporting data to inform customers and future development efforts. At ADDMAN you’ll be part of a rapidly growing world class engineering team, interfacing internally with program managers, application engineers, technicians, machinists, quality champions, and company leadership. 


This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. citizen status. 


Essential Job Functions:

  • Act as resource to internal and external customers on material and feedstock selection, developing best practice and sourcing guidelines and specifications.
  • Create design of experiments, build layouts and files for a range of laser powder bed fusion printing equipment.
  • Help manage lot tracking, inventory transactions, and storage/mixing procedures for powder feedstocks, assessing new vendors and their products prior to purchase. 
  • Manage all material and powder testing for both research and production. 
  • Increase organizational competencies in additive manufacturing processing and characterization. Executing equipment assessments and acquisitions.   
  • Operates characterization, testing, and additive manufacturing equipment. 
  • Responsible for developing material databases and marketing material for newly qualified materials. 
  • Lead the development and revision of powder , material, and process specifications. 
  • Lead internal efforts to enhance our quoting, printing, laboratory, and post-printing processes.
  •  Research end users’ needs through communication with sales, directly with clients, and internal stakeholders. In some cases, travel to trade shows and customer sites is required.
  • Overtime you may be expected to mentor, teach, and be an engineering technical resource for the organization including junior employees, technicians, interns, or co-ops. 

Requirements

Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams to support the core business, ensuring quality products are delivered on time
  • Computer aptitude (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel)

  • Ability to take ownership of and complete efforts within budget and schedule
  • Must be a team player and willing to learn new skills and concepts 
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Science Degree in Materials Science or related field 
  • Previous Additive Manufacturing Experience 
  • High degree of proficiency in materials testing and characterization. 
  • Experience with laser powder bed fusion equipment. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job operates in a professional additive manufacturing, traditional manufacturing, and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as printing equipment, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc
  • The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shops, and other mandatory safety equipment.
  • For the most part, ambient temperatures with typical plant lighting and manufacturing equipment are present throughout the facility.
