Position Summary: We are looking for a detail-oriented Warehouse Person to join our team.
Position Duties
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities are as follows:
Receive, unload, unpack, inspect and store a variety of parts and materials in designated warehouse location. Relocate items as necessary for additional space in a safe and efficient manner.
Receive all incoming deliveries for Kitsap Transit. Deliver supplies received for other departments during normal business hours. Unpack/uncrate and inspect parts shipments for damage. Compare against shipping and ordering documents to ensure correctness and completeness (price, quantity and quality of items delivered).
Receive requests for parts from vehicle maintenance shop personnel at service counter. Identify appropriate part and issue parts and materials to requester. May require assisting mechanics, service personnel and/or supervisors in identifying correct part with parts books and catalogs. Accurately issue parts using a computer workstation and a handheld mobile device.
Perform periodic and annual inventories.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Remove debris. Assist Parts Supervisor with regular safety inspections and identify and inform supervisor of potential safety issues. Sweep out warehouse and receiving area daily. Mop warehouse and receiving area monthly and as needed. Keep loft area and area outside of receiving door clear of debris and swept. Stack pallets in approved location. Break down cardboard for recycling and place trash in receptacle.
Pick up parts, materials and supplies from vendors, when necessary.
Issue and receive special tools. Maintain logbook.
Operate computer inventory system to run reports, identify location of parts and update location codes.
Dip underground storage tanks as directed to verify quantities on hand.
Perform related duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Inventory Control Supervisor.

Kitsap Transit employees who wish to apply must have a satisfactory performance and attendance record. Kitsap Transit Operators with any of the following criteria in the last twelve months are excluded from recruitment opportunities:

Other Qualifications
Education and Experience: You must have knowledge of inventory record-keeping practices. You must have, at least, a basic knowledge of inventory software and experience with bar code readers and scanners. You must be familiar with and be able to identify various automotive parts. You must have knowledge of warehouse methods and procedures, including safety procedures. You must be familiar with and be able to read parts books and catalogs. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required.
You must have the ability to work independently. You must be able to accurately count inventory, maintain the parts warehouse, including accurate inventory and maintenance records. You must be able to plan for and anticipate parts needed. You are also expected to communicate effectively in person and in writing. You must also be able to follow oral and written instructions and procedures. You must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with others. In addition, you must be able to, with agency provided training, be able to operate a forklift and pallet jack.
Salary Range: Starting pay is $24.92 with a shift differential of $1.00 per hour and a step increase after six months of satisfactory performance.

This position participates in the Washington State Public Employees’ Retirement Plan with the option of participating in a state administered deferred compensation plan. Employees receive a generous general leave accrual and 11 holidays pro-rated based on the number of hours worked per pay period up to a maximum of 80 hours per pay period. Kitsap Transit also provides employees and certain dependents with a free transportation pass on Kitsap Transit.
Hours of Work: The initial shift for this position is Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. This shift will possibly change to Wednesday – Sunday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Please note that shifts may change based on the business needs of the agency and seniority provisions.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: In this position, you will work in a heated and air-conditioned warehouse. 75% of your time will be spent walking and 25% standing. You will work outdoors when unloading material. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, without assistance or equipment and additional weights with a hand truck, cart, or other equipment and/or assistance. In this position, you are required to work at heights up to 10 feet. Balancing, stooping, reaching, and grasping actions are frequently required. You will be required to pass a Functional Assessment prior to hire.

The top scorers will be invited to skills testing, basic computer operation, interviews and a Functional Assessment. We will not make any hiring decisions until all steps in the selection process are completed including reference and background checks. Kitsap Transit does not pay for relocation costs.
