SUMMARY
This role is responsible for driving the growth of Carrier Controls in the MN, ND and WI market by developing and implementing strategic sales initiatives. The Controls Sales Engineer builds strong relationships with contractors, developers, consulting engineers, and end-users while leading sales efforts from lead generation to contract close. This position requires a high level of industry knowledge in HVAC, controls, and building automation systems, as well as the ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams to meet customer needs and sales targets.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSS
Sales and Business Development
- Develop and expand long-term customer relationships with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, developers, and vendor partners.
- Build new relationships with end-user clients to generate demand for Carrier Controls on new construction and retrofit projects.
- Promote Carrier building solutions by identifying client needs and presenting appropriate offerings.
- Create and implement strategic sales strategies to position Carrier as the preferred controls solution.
Project and Account Management
- Manage current Carrier buying group relationships to drive Controls growth.
- Collaborate with sales engineers and territory managers to oversee project execution from bid through installation.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders (field sales, service, operations, finance, legal) to support the sales process and ensure successful delivery.
- Provide regular forecasting, pipeline updates, CRM tracking and sales activity reports.
Industry Knowledge and Customer Support
- Maintain strong technical knowledge of HVAC, automation, energy systems, and intelligent building technologies.
- Assist controls experts in improving sales performance and operational efficiency.
- Perform needs assessments and develop technical sales proposals, estimates, and specifications.
Engagement and Continuous Improvement:
- Represent the company at industry events, seminars, and civic organizations to build professional networks and stay informed on market trends.
- Participate in internal sales meetings and continuous learning programs to expand product and market expertise.
- Deploy account management strategies for existing clients while focusing on new control expert acquisition and customer retention.
- Participate in and promote continuous learning and development through training initiatives such as MN Air University, HR programs, tech-support courses, webinars, or other job-related trainings to foster continuous learning and development mindset.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Proven ability to manage complex technical sales cycles and develop strong client relationships.
- Strong financial, technical, and strategic selling skills.
- High level of self-motivation with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Hubspot, Dynamics), quoting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business, or related field.
- 6–10 years of experience in HVAC controls, automation, energy, sustainability, or related technical sales.
- Knowledge of Master Systems Integration, Building Automation Systems, HVAC systems, and Information Technology.
- Familiarity with MN, ND and WI market is strongly preferred.
- Active and valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
