Your Opportunities

The Discipline Leader for Buildings Business Innovation inspires and upholds the highest ambitions for our practice – to be the world’s leading integrated design firm. This position is a part of Buildings Leadership Team and is responsible for the technology solutions strategy for Buildings reporting to the VP of Innovation.

The Buildings Discipline Leader for Buildings Business Innovation is responsible and accountable for:

  1. Improving client services/project delivery and market position through customized digital technology solutions and products. 
  2. Empowering the practice with comprehensive business tools, streamlined processes, educational resources, and data analytics to enhance efficiency, reduce risk, and promote innovative technological solutions. 
  3. Contributing as a Buildings’ senior leader enhancing our practice through core responsibilities for strategic planning, market development, project execution, financial management, and talent retention and recruitment. 

The Discipline Leader will advance these responsibilities through engaging across the practice, its projects and pursuits, and the industry at large as a brand ambassador.

This position can be located in any Stantec office in Canada or the US.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Set strategic direction for Buildings’ digital business transformation and optimization, including business software, workflows/ best practices, training and education, for data management, project management, and communication/ collaboration. 
  • Drive the strategic, tactical, and transformational plans for business tools and processes across Buildings to improve efficiency, accuracy, and excellence in the delivery of our work across our practice.
  • Promote standardization of innovative and efficient processes in support of Buildings design and delivery excellence. 
  • Oversee automation and customization of BIM/CAD productivity software and associated content: templates, families, block libraries, etc. for quality control and consistency. 
  • Support the integration of Buildings acquisitions and group hires by strategizing with IT and supporting their migration schedule and working with incoming legacy companies to understand their resources and best practices and set the strategy for how those resources will be brought into Stantec.
  • Develop and support the budgeting process, establish KPIs and return on investments of the initiatives for Buildings.
  • Establish digital strategies on advanced technologies like AI to drive operational efficiency for core business tools and processes in the BOU. 
  • Identify, refine, and supplement corporate best practices and workflows for AE business. Advocate for Buildings needs in Corporate-owned software/workflows, as well as Buildings best interests in Corporate Digital Governance Committee (CDGC) for new software approvals
  • Identify gaps in core tooling and determine strategy to fill those gaps, and work with BDP’s Development team to sponsor and prioritize internally developed solutions. 
  • Lead team to provide strategic consulting and support for Project Information Management (PIM) with our core tools (i.e. records retention, specific client requests, other business tools, etc.). 
  • Identify, streamline, and document business workflows and procedures to increase efficiency and compliance in Buildings.
  • Oversee Buildings business line and people data analytic dashboards to supplement corporate tools. Enable the practice and Business Leaders to make more informed decisions from our various data streams, including people and project data.
  • Manage Stantec’s engagement with Digital Technology-related industry memberships and partnerships and vendors.
  • Participate in the Idea Machine submission process for Buildings, vetting ideas to appropriately allocate Innovation funding in alignment with Buildings priorities.
  • Establish direction and mentorship on Digital Delivery careers and Project Information Management (PIM) roles in BCs, with goal of advancing this important skill on projects aiding in risk mitigation and business efficiency.
  • Oversee and support of BC PIM (Project Information Management) / technology leadership and Buildings’ Digital peer to peer networks.
  • Provide management and mentorship for digital practice team members, and the extended PIM discipline in BCs. 
  • Collaborate with the DL for Design Computing to support the adoption of AI, generative design and other advanced design technology into our daily practice.  
  • Responsible for the development and regular training by Digital Practice members of all digital business technologies, including Data Management, Project Management, & Communication/ Collaboration related products/process used. 
  • Collaborate and support the DO Pillar Discipline Leaders to drive forward the ‘One Practice’ initiative. 
  • Collaborate across BOUs, IT, and Digital Innovation teams to align business technology focus and standards and maximize cross-pollination of innovation and creativity and to drive collaboration on pursuits, shared initiatives, and lessons learned. 
  • Develop and support the Buildings software budgeting process and oversee Buildings Asset Management and software/codes & standards renewal process. 
  • Coordinate with IT, purchasing, and other functional service teams to orchestrate and manage Building’s practice specific software; purchase, implementation, rollout, update, and customization of both industry and internally developed solutions which include but are not limited to; Microsoft 365 (Stantec Enterprise), Bluebeam, Newforma, and manage the vendor relationships.

  • Collaborate with key corporate initiatives, counterpart in other BOUs and the Innovation Office.  
  • Participate on the Buildings Leadership Team and actively collaborate with the BOUL, BLs, SLs, RBLs, RGLs, DLs in the improvement of innovation strategies and tools that can be employed to help differentiate us in the market on major pursuits.
  • Position the Stantec Buildings practice platform as a preferred employer in the markets we work in for the purposes of staff recruitment and retention.
  • Advance inclusion practices to maximize the human potential in our firm.

People Leadership

  • Act as a highly regarded leader, thought partner, and a source of counsel and advice for the business.
  • Engage in and support resource management, career development, engagement, succession planning, coaching, mentoring, and leadership development across the practice.
  • Attract talent and develop technical experts across the digital practice services and Building’s practice.
  • Inspire, motivate, and hold the team accountable for the delivery of innovative and efficient processes and solutions. 
  • Identify, connect, and support emerging leaders in Business Solution or relevant tech team roles across the organization for growth and advancement.
  • Contribute to Stantec’s Safer Together culture, prioritizing the physical and mental health and safety of our employees.

Project Focus

  • Collaborate with Sector Leaders, BC leaders and regional market leaders to advance and leverage digital team expertise across our practice to win and deliver key projects.
  • Positively impact revenue and utilization across our projects worldwide through BC digital transformation initiatives, including efficient business tools/workflows.
  • Work within a team environment to create/enforce innovative business tools, activities, processes and workflows that increase efficiency and improve quality.
  • Collaborate with the Major Projects team to ensure that our major projects are supported from the PIM (Project Information Management) aspect, including the identification of potential risks and determining appropriate mitigation strategies.

Financial Management

  • Assist with developing the annual Digital Practice budget allocation, manage the allocation, and provide budget review.
  • Contribute to the annual business plan and budget, outlining the vision, focus, and priorities for Digital Practice/ Innovation and setting specific goals for business and practice performance in this area.

Outreach

  • Stay informed of changes in the marketplace to software, hardware, and technology updates in this field through active involvement in the Digital/BIM/CAD community.
  • Support business development and marketing efforts: presentations, visualizations, interviews, and industry presence 
  • Steward thought leadership internally and externally in service of sectors and client support and to enhance Stantec’s position as an industry changemaker.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proven ability to innovate, inspire and manage teams collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of the unique technology and applications needs of Buildings projects and practice. 
  • Knowledge of digital technology, application development, quality assurance as well as emerging trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, inspire, manage, and develop staff members.
  • Ability to think strategically, act tactically and set priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a plan to implement and communicate.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and priorities of the collective Digital Business team. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within all levels of an organization including C-level leadership. 
  • Expert level Microsoft Office365 productivity suite including SharePoint and Power BI.
  • Functional knowledge of recent versions of Google, Microsoft, Bentley and Autodesk product lines. 
  • Functional knowledge of other common industry applications; Bluebeam, Newforma, Autodesk Construction Cloud at a minimum. 
  • Functional knowledge of project delivery digital tools.
  • General understanding of IT Security requirements within Stantec to assist in responding to ‘Request for Technology Solutions’ on any software that is required to comply.
  • Expert level understanding of data sovereignty, data residency, ontology, taxonomy, and industry data architecture best practices.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors' degree in area of practice or Information Technology
  • 15+ years of professional experience with specialized experience successfully implementing enterprise-wide digital practice projects of strategic significance
  • Experience creating, setting and managing capital and operating budgets
  • Experience leading distributed teams
  • Technical certifications relevant to the position
  • Experience with Lean, Agile and ITIL a plus

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
