We’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Mapping Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), enjoys working with data, and thrives in both collaborative and independent environments. As a GIS Mapping Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining and analyzing GTA’s spatial data to support network expansion and operational initiatives. Working closely with the GIS Mapping Director, you’ll create accurate maps, clean and standardize datasets, and provide geospatial insights to guide decision-making. Your responsibilities will include:
- Creating, updating, and maintaining GIS-based maps for GTA’s infrastructure, including fiber optic networks, wireless coverage areas, and service territories.
- Tracing and documenting existing and proposed fiber paths to support planning and expansion.
- Collecting, processing, and analyzing spatial data from sources such as CAD, GPS, and spreadsheets.
- Cleaning and maintaining GIS databases, including legacy data review and correction.
- Developing new geospatial datasets and integrating field-collected data and engineering drawings.
- Using GIS software (ArcGIS, CrescentLink) to generate thematic maps, conduct analysis, and provide insights.
- Collaborating with engineering and planning teams to integrate GIS data with enterprise systems.
- Creating automated mapping workflows and tools to improve efficiency.
- Performing quality control checks to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
- Documenting GIS methodologies, best practices, and standard operating procedures.
- Responding to requests for GIS-based reports, maps, and visualizations from internal stakeholders.

This is what you need to have
- High school diploma or GED required
- Basic knowledge of ArcGIS ArcMap, CrescentLink, and/or associated systems.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite
- Ability to travel and conduct occasional field work depending on project-specific requirements
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual, and consistent attendance
- Must have and maintain current driver license
