Description

As the Shift Lead for the production floor, you will be responsible for supporting production floor operation during your assigned shift.  As the Shift Lead you will run press equipment as specified to meet production and customer needs. You will perform required machine maintenance, troubleshoot and perform intermediate repairs as needed.  You will train other employees to operate and troubleshoot their own equipment, such as a die-cutter, flexo press and rewinder.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand work order. Validate raw material, tooling and inks per job ticket.  Sets up presses with raw material, tooling and inks for scheduled orders.
  • Monitor and adjust printing presses to obtain proper register, color and coating applications, per specifications.
  • Inspect printed product after initial set-up and adjust settings for quality, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Perform routine maintenance on press to manufacturer specifications, ensuring optimum performance.
  • Complete minor repairs on production equipment, replacing worn or damaged parts.  Submit maintenance request when complex or major repairs are necessary. 
  • Maintain count of completed product per run. Record and dispose of spoilage in designated manner.
  • Train employees, as assigned, to operate a flexographic press, according to company standards.
  • Ensure employees have the required materials and tools to perform their daily job duties.
  • Communicate with professionalism and tact.
  • Notify management of any major incidents during shift such as recurring equipment malfunction, poor quality raw material or production, etc. Leave detailed shift notes for supervisor and/or production manager.
  • Relay relevant time and attendance information to production supervisor.
  • Manage equipment to published schedule. Make changes as needed.
  • Document and communicate any safety/near miss/first aid issues that occur during the shift, ensuring all details are captured, including witnesses and photos.
  • Address work performance issues (i.e. Abuse of breaks, not completing QA checks, etc.).
  • Anticipate and identify the need for overtime on adjacent shifts.  Communicate this to the production supervisor.
  • Review end of shift reports from all equipment/operators and address any data collection issues.
  • Manage die-cutters for schedule, troubleshooting and performance. Support die-cutters when needed.
  • Schedule jobs for rewind based on the ship request and help them as needed with auto-count, ticket and roll count issues, case labels, etc.
  • Complete second sign off-offs on all jobs and give line clearance to avoid any product mix ups.
  • Help HP operators with their material and communicate any issues which may result in production loss or delays.   
  • Set up material for presses.  Set up schedules for rewind and die-cutters based on the ship request and efficiencies.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Requirements:
Education and Experience:

  • HS (GED) required, Associate degree or higher preferred
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience setting up and running a flexographic press or other similar presses in a printing or packaging facility.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in make-ready and operating a flexographic press.
  • Experience leading others or supporting a team. 
  • Ability to prioritize and think proactively.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos as well as disseminate information from customers or other employees within the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, circumference, and volume.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to communicate with others in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Excellent organization skills

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Training Requirements:

  • Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 pounds with assistance.  Sitting, standing, crouching, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required to include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus on small details.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to dust and noise, moving mechanical parts in the production environment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety shoes and safety glasses are highly recommended in the production area. 
  • Must follow all Company safety regulations.
