SUMMARY
Responsible for creating a safe learning and working environment for students, teachers, and administrators within the schools of Lafayette Parish.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude and includes the following: getting along with co-workers, responding politely to members of the community, working as a team member, functioning under pressure, and responding in a positive manner to supervision.
Other duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Report at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled school work hours.
- Provide a uniformed presence on school premises and utilizes a marked unit during the course of a school day.
- Work with school administration for the common goal of educating and helping students.
- Keep a record of all criminal law related offenses that occurred on school property.
- Provide monthly report to SRO Program Manager of all documented incidents and arrest that occur on campus.
- Provide guidance to students and their families and make referrals to agencies and services when necessary.
- Act as a liaison between the school and his/her respective agency.
- May be required to work evenings and weekends in reference to crime prevention or community events which include youth recreational programs.
- Provide conflict resolution to students needing guidance.
- Will maintain a daily log to be viewed by supervisors
- Conduct occasional presentations on issues such as bullying, social media safety and other to classes.
- Abide by policies and regulations of the Lafayette Parish School System
- Does not enforce school board policies but shall report any violations of any school board policy to the school principal or his/her designee.
- Handle all criminal violations as prescribed by the Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure and any other applicable laws.
- Advise school principal of the security needs of assigned schools and participate in meetings with the faculty on crisis team planning.
- Interact with students to promote and reinforce the development of basic life skills, social behavior, appropriate activity, personal control, and responsibility for one’s actions.
- Perform preventative patrols of various areas of the school campus.
- Address the concern of an outsider’s presence on assigned school sites.
- Investigate all assigned cases involving school or school-complex students, either involved as victim or suspect, except those handled by special units.
- Perform other duties as directed by the SRO Supervisor.
