Summary:
Telecommunicators play a vital role in law enforcement operations.  In this career, you will receive calls from public concerning emergencies and complaints, broadcast to suitable units to investigate, respond to deputy requests for information, and much more.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude and includes the following: getting along with co-workers, responding politely to members of the community, working as a team member, functioning under pressure, and responding in a positive manner to supervision.

Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Answer telephones professionally from a variety of sources including citizens, law enforcement officials, dignitaries, and others; handle calls from 911, care-call system
• Handle all radio traffic using two-way radio and other communication systems including computer-aided dispatch (CAD); monitor GPS vehicle tracking system and deputies working off-duty security
• Use typing and computer skills to input and receive information from the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC), and others for criminal history, warrants and pager messaging
• Dispatch wreckers for accidents and/or traffic related calls for service
• Maintains wrecker logs, assuring that the information is correct in the wrecker log
• Monitor a weather-alert system, respond to in-house alarm systems, monitor evidence
camera’s, monitor briefing room/intox cameras
• Monitor the School Resource Officer (SRO) high priority emails
• Use a wide range of informational resources including telephone books, city directories, and other communication manuals, and websites
• Transmit and receive messages between divisions of own agency and other law enforcement agencies
• Maintain an on-call calendar for after hour notifications of calls for service.
• Notify specialized divisions for callouts (SWAT, Dive Team, Water Patrol, etc.)
• File and maintain current records of Temporary Restraining Orders, Preliminary Injunctions, and Permanent Injunctions on civil documents served in Lafayette Parish
• Answers the TTY Machine for deaf citizens in need of assistance
• Maintain information on personnel, special divisions, etc. for callouts (manual copies in lieu of computers not working)
• Uses different computer system to check for warrants and calls various agencies to check out of parish warrants.
