Position Summary: 
 
As the System Validation Test Engineer at EVgo, you will spearhead testing efforts for a first in-world line of Charging Products. This role encompasses both developmental and validation testing across various components such as low-voltage electrical components, high-voltage electrical components, and mechanical cable connectors. You will play a key role in ensuring that all products meet strict performance and reliability standards by developing, executing, and overseeing verification and validation methods. This includes setting up and conducting rigorous durability and environmental testing campaigns, as well as managing the status and progress of these efforts. 
 
You will be responsible for establishing test strategies, and ensuring the necessary resources and materials are available. Additionally, you will oversee a fleet of test assets, ensuring proper software updates and data collection. You will guide and support engineers and technicians, both internally and externally, ensuring test execution aligns with requirements and standards. You will also collaborate with development teams to provide insights and feedback, track and escalate issues, and maintain thorough traceability between requirements, test cases, and results. 
 
You will define the functional requirements for Special Test Equipment (STE) and data acquisition systems, as well as analyze and report on test data to drive product refinement and improve quality attributes. Strong written and communication skills are essential for collaborating with suppliers, vendors, and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced development environment. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Lead product level testing, both developmental and validation, for a first-in-world charging product. 
  • Support hardware testing from end-to-end, from the components to the final assembled product.
  • Setup, coordinate and execute product durability, reliability and environmental test campaigns. 
  • Develop and write verification and validation test methods required to guarantee products meet product requirements and provide feedback to the development teams on progress, and outcomes.  
  • Track, investigate, and escalate issues by providing clear, well-structured, high-level updates. 
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and results.
  • Define test equipment, functional requirements of instrumentation, data acquisitions for test and validation efforts.  
  • Provide directions to test engineers and technicians (at internal labs, and at 3rd party test labs) setting up and executing tests.  
  • Create summary test reports and provide data analytics collected during testing. 
Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience collaborating with cross functional stakeholders in a hardware test and development team.  
Desired Skills: 
  • Expertise in environmental test setup, execution, and error-proofing.  
  • Excellent documentation skills.  
  • Proficiency with instrumentation such as thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure gauges, and flow meters.  
  • Hands-on experience in hardware and software test environment from the component to the system level.  
  • Familiarity with electronics test equipment, including power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, function generators, and data acquisition systems.  
  • Understanding of hardware development life cycles, reliability testing, and compliance standards.  
  • Must-be able to travel internationally for test integration, commissioning, and training.  
  • Experience designing test plans and managing external test laboratories.   
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as MIL-STD-50G, UL 2202, and UL 50E.  
  • Experience with medium- and high-voltage systems (up to 1000VDC).  
  • Proficiency in collaboration and requirements management tools (JIRA, Confluence, JAMA).  
  • Strong analytical mindset with hands-on troubleshooting, failure analysis, and problem-solving skills.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document and present test results effectively.  
  • Experience in setting up and executing automated and manual test systems is a plus.  
For job positions in CA, CO, and NYC, the estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is $100,000.00 USD to $120,000.00 USD. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition to a competitive base salary, discretionary target cash bonus, and restricted stock units (subject to Board Approval).
