The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking a Senior Executive Assistant to provide high-level, confidential administrative support to the Board of Education.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Organization of LACOE and functions of the various departments
  • Applicable sections of the Education Code, and other laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures affecting LACOE operations
  • General office practices and procedures, including the preparation of business correspondence and the operation of standard office equipment
  • Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary
  • Basic arithmetic concepts
  • Procedures involved in monitoring and processing budgets, expenditures and payroll
  • Operation of a personal computer, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Input and data retrieval procedures for databases and computerized systems
  • Filing and record-keeping techniques

Required Education and Experience
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience: Four years of secretarial experience for the administrator of a large and complex division, department or agency.

Additional Requirements: College course work or training certificates in communications, public relations, business or public administration, or from a field closely related to the knowledge and abilities requirements from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council of Higher Education or a recognized training agency are preferred. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Some positions require a valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites.

Selection Process
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of Performance Exam and Structured Interview.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive examination process. Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272). Veterans' Credit may be awarded for entry jobs.
