Burns %26amp; McDonnell is a 100% employee-owned firm providing the opportunity to exercise your entrepreneurial spirit and develop professionally within a growing and industry-leading consulting firm.%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EAs a professional within our Environmental Services Practice, this position will work closely with multi-disciplinary project teams to support environmental permitting, impact assessment, and due diligence efforts for a variety of projects, including but not limited to wind, solar, carbon capture/sequestration, power generation, linear infrastructure and public works projects.%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EThe successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and have the following experience:%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cul style=%22margin-top: 0in;%22 type=%22square%22%3E%0A%3Cli%3EConduct various field studies, including but not limited to:%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EHabitat assessments%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EWildlife, vegetation, and noxious weed surveys%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3ESpecial status species presence/absence surveys%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EWetland and waterway delineations%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EEnvironmental site assessments%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3ECollect project-related field data%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EPrepare GIS data for map production in accordance with standards and industry best practices%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EPrepare technical reports such as species surveys, mitigation and monitoring plans, biological assessments, and impact statements%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EMonitor environmental mitigation sites%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EConduct routine compliance oversite monitoring during active construction where sensitive or protected species or habitat may be present%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EDevelop project permitting strategies and support agency consultation efforts to comply with state and federal laws and regulations such as the Endangered Species Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Clean Water Act and National Environmental Policy Act%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli%3EEnsure compliance with company and site safety policies%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli class=%22MsoNormal%22 style=%22margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: normal; background: white; vertical-align: baseline;%22%3EAll other duties as assigned%3C/li%3E%0A%3C/ul%3E
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field from an accredited program required. Completion of a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • 4 years of experience performing environmental and site studies, preparing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects is required. (5-6 years of related experience is preferred.)
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification not required, but the ability to be certified is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory agencies that govern biological and ecological resources
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wetland, stream, ecological risks and protected species assessments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods used for collection and analysis of environmental data
  • Demonstrated knowledge of field investigation techniques
  • Strong technical skills, statistical knowledge and attention to detail
  • Ability to use creativity, problem-solving and analytical skills to develop solutions for project challenges
  • Ability to travel outside of normal working hours, including weekends
  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information
  • Proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver's license required; in addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience conducting field studies and supporting permitting efforts in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, and/or Illinois
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations pertaining to the Endangered Species Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Clean Water Act and National Environmental Policy Act
  • Species-specific survey/handling permits (or willingness to obtain them)
  • Experience with bird/bat habitat evaluation, mist-netting and/or acoustic surveys
  • Previous experience preparing Avian Protection Plans for wind projects
  • Wetland delineation certification
