Job Details:

The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health is accepting applications from graduate students at The University of Texas at Austin for one graduate assistant to work with the foundation’s Communications Unit. The position may be considered for renewal for the Spring 2026 semester.

The Hogg Foundation Communications Unit is responsible for promoting the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health’s impact and offerings—through strategic and integrated communications—and advancing it as one of the country’s premier agents of change for mental health at the community level, particularly for marginalized populations.      

Responsibilities 

Specific assignments and responsibilities will be determined by the Communications Manager. Responsibilities may include one or more of the following:   

  • Assisting with the scripting, recording, or editing of the foundation podcast.   

  • Creating and/or editing video content.   

  • Creating strong strategies for social media, utilizing new approaches or tools.   

  • Taking and managing event photographs.  

  • Website management: support the Communications team in making content updates to Hogg Foundation web properties using WordPress CMS. 

  • Writing copy for the foundation blog.  

  • Attend Hogg Foundation staff training, meetings, and events, as required 

  • Providing general assistance to the Communications Team in support of the foundation’s communications initiatives.  

Qualifications 

  • Graduate student in the School of Information; School of Social Work; College of Liberal Arts; LBJ School of Public Affairs; Dell Medical School; McCombs School of Business; Moody College of Communications; or School of Design and Creative Technologies. 

  • Must excel in at least two of the following areas: 

  • Web development 

  • Graphic design 

  • Writing and editing 

  • Audio editing and/or podcast production  

  • Social media content and strategy 

  • Marketing and promotion  

  • Media relations/reporter outreach  

  • Video production or editing 

  • Data visualization or data analytics  

  • Interest in mental health promotion. 

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects. 

  • Strong preference for candidates who are open to renewing the position in Spring 2026. 

Eligibility Requirements  

  • Must be a graduate student in good academic standing, making satisfactory progress towards a degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA.  

  • Enrollment requirements:   

  • 9+ semester hours in long semesters.  

  • 3 semester hours in summer.  

Working Conditions 

  • Typical office environment; repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation; onsite at the LAC. 

Work Shift 

  • 20 hours per week. 

  • Onsite at LAC during normal hours (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm).  

Required Materials 

  • Resume/CV, including link to portfolio. 

  • 3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisor.
