Astro Pak is the nation's leading precision cleaning and passivation contractor specializing in on-site cleaning of high purity gas and fluid systems, as well as precision cleaning of components and hardware at the company’s Cleanroom facilities. POSITION OPPORTUNITY
The Cleanroom Technical Estimator conceptualizes, prepares, and delivers technical bid proposals / quotes. The Technical Estimator reviews drawings, specifications, procedural information and prepares a qualified scope of work and bid proposal. This role also contributes to the continuous improvement of the methodology, tools and approaches to estimating for improved accuracy and strategic pricing. 

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize Jobs
    • Determine the processing times, labor allocation, materials and other costs needed to complete jobs in an efficient manner and that aligns with the Scope.
  • Understand Costs
    • Collect and analyze data including: labor, materials, supplies, rentals, equipment, etc.
    • Observe real-time processes and conduct time studies to determine direct labor hours and material utilization.
    • Prepare and maintain historical cost data. 
  • Issue Bids
    • Accuracy: ensure that bids are issued complete and accurate
    • Timeliness: ensure that bids are received by customer per the bid due date and customer expectations
  • Conduct Bid v Actual Assessment / Use Feedback Loop for Bid Accuracy
    • Collect feedback from quality, operations and facility team members to ensure that the conceptualization represented actual process, labor and material utilization. 
    • Distribute the findings as needed to ensure improvements to future bids and travelers.
  • Hand-Off to Operations and Process Engineers
    • Ensure that Scope information, commitments made to customer and conceptualization are communicated to Process Engineers and Operations
  • Facilitate Formal Bid Reviews (pre and post job)
    • Bid-strategy meetings
    • Risk analysis meetings
    • Bid v actual meetings
  • Strategic Bidding
    • Ensure accuracy in bidding relative to targeted mark ups.
    • Review and assess historical pricing.
    • Collaborate with Manager for technical guidance for high revenue LTAs.
    • Collaborate with Sales to ensure bids address customer issues and competitive forces
  • Process Planning
    • Participate in the development and understand how to create process work instructions
    • Work closely with process engineering and operations teams to refine Astro Pak Procedures. Your role is critical in aligning these procedures with detailed specification requirements and customer purchase orders, ensuring a seamless operation flow.
  • Quality Bids
    • Ensure that bids meet QMS requirements.
  • Bid Efficiencies
    • Create price lists and pricing standards as needed
  • Facilitate Continuous Process Improvement
    • Actively seek out and identify opportunities for process improvement. Lead initiatives to develop and implement innovative solutions that drive efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational effectiveness.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management
  • Analyze and implement projects in compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws

Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications:  Must have a bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.

Related Experience:  Minimum of 1-3 years of prior customer service, account coordinator, manufacturing, sales, or cleanroom experience preferred. Preferred experience working in the chemical cleaning industry or other related field (industrial cleaning, waste management, mechanical contracting/engineering, etc.)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities.
  • Effectively interact at all levels of company and with customers of various backgrounds and experience. Ability to advocate strongly on behalf of customers.
  • Should possess a degree of business acumen, energetic, and solid estimation capabilities. Ability to interact with individuals of all levels and various backgrounds and experience. Take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment.
  • Approach situations with critical thought and decision making
  • Microsoft Project experience preferred
  • Must be able to perform analysis of historical data for development of bidding metrics/factors and cost proposal justification
  • Legal capacity to comply with federally mandated requirements of the U.S. Export Control Laws.

Environment

  • Primary Environment will be an Office Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Will be exposed to dust, fume, smoke, toxic chemicals and disagreeable odors
