About the Department
If you are enthusiastic, organized, and have a passion for supporting performing arts in our community, join the Cary Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources team as a House Manager. This role requires excellent communication skills, crowd management abilities, and a strong customer service mindset.
The House Manager works across the Cary Arts Center and The Cary Theater, overseeing all public areas of Cary's performing arts venues. This role will be responsible for overseeing ushers, greeting patrons, and managing the crowd. Most importantly, this person will ensure that the experience of each patron is enjoyable and safe.
The House Manager will work a combination of non-traditional hours including days, evenings, and weekends as determined by Cary’s performing arts schedule, including related work pre- and post-show. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Specialist.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Position Duties
- Manages crowds, effectively directs patrons, and ensures that egress areas remain clear during all performances
- Provides exceptional customer service with a high level of professionalism
- Cross trains on basic box office procedures as needed
- Provides strong leadership and assists with training and managing ushers and house staff for all performances
- Oversees work of volunteer greeters and ticket scanners
- Assists with the set-up of pre-show receptions
- Oversees merchandise displays and helps to maintain the tidiness of the public spaces, as well as any artwork or advertisements that are on displays
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of theatre operations
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to established deadlines with limited supervision
- Ability to engage with the public tactfully and effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures, and services of the center, division, and department.
Other Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.
Requires a First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain one within 6 months with supplied training.Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Some experience working in theatre operations
- Some in-person customer service experience
