About the Department
If you enjoy providing exemplary customer service and have a passion for supporting performing arts in our community, join the Cary Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources team as a Box Office Specialist.
The Box Office Specialist will assist patrons with information about upcoming events and ticket purchases for the Cary Arts Center, Page-Walker Arts and History Center, The Cary Theater, and other Cary facilities in the downtown area. You will provide excellent customer service, ensuring that each patron is assisted in an efficient and friendly manner.
The Box Office Specialist will work a combination of non-traditional hours including days, evenings, and weekends as determined by Cary’s performing arts and box office schedule. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Specialist.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Position Duties
- Fields all incoming calls and walk-ups, providing information about ticketed and non-ticketed events
- Receives and responds to customer issues or questions related to box office policies
- Processes exchanges and returns, elevating to the Program Specialist as necessary
- Assists with contacting patrons and/or presenters regarding event details
- Provides presenters with updates about ticket sales as needed
- Assists with various administrative projects such as mailers and season ticket renewals
- Assists with updating and maintaining a list and description of events, ensuring that information is accurate and complete
- Prepares Will Call ticket file for performances
- Performs basic accounting for daily transactions
- Provides information on departmental policies, procedures, services, and helps to enforce Cary policies
- Cross-trains on basic house manager tasks such as crowd control and event reporting
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- General knowledge of computers and related software
- General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
- General knowledge of ticketing software such as eTix or Ticketmaster.
- Ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline
- Skill in the operation of common office equipment
- General knowledge of cash collection procedures; ability to meet the public effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to engage with the public in a firm but tactful manner
- Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the center, division and department
- Ability to maintain filing systems.
Other Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Some experience with box office cash handling and ticketing software, such as Ticketmaster or eTix.
- Some experience with in-person customer service.
- Some experience in theater operations.
Work in this class is primarily clerical and indoor in nature and may require sitting and use of a computer for extended time periods. Some assignments may occasionally require the ability to lift or move moderately heavy objects, such as heavy boxes and other items. An employee must be able to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.
