Position Description Summary

APT Research is hiring an Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Quality Assurance Specialist-2 on the KSC Safety and Mission Assurance Support Services (SMASS IV) contract in Kennedy Space Center, FL supporting NASA's Artemis Program. This person will perform quality assurance, direct Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs), oversight/insight surveillances, and provide QAS support to the ER&T SMA office in the SA-B division ER&T S&MA Office.

Required Experience/Education:

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: 4 years of Quality Assurance experience with complex systems
  • Background in aerospace industry or military experience and familiarity with systems used on aerospace or aircraft vehicles
  • Perform insight and oversight of processing for the ER&T S&MA Office. This effort will be primarily focused on processing critical flight hardware, payloads, and Ground System Equipment (GSE). This work may include a variety of systems such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic.
  • Performs inspections, surveillance, and requirement compliance while overseeing fabrication, assembly, test, and checkout of aerospace flight hardware/payloads and GSE.
  • Performs acceptance of flight hardware/GSE, receiving inspections, and review of Acceptance Data Packs
  • Evaluates adequacy, compliance, and effectiveness of the contractor's QMS activities
  • Provides input to SA-F and SA-B Quality management with respect to contractor performance
  • Performs Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs), In-Line Assessments, surveillances, and tracks associated nonconformances and corrective actions
  • Identifies quality and safety issues and potential concerns that need to be documented and addressed
  • Provide cross-program support to other NASA programs as required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Must be able to interact and develop excellent working relationships with various customers, peers, and management within and outside of KSC S&MA Organization

 

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • Must be a U.S citizen with the ability to obtain a NACI.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Quality background with experience overseeing operations associated with complex systems (i.e. mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, etc.)
  • Ability to read/ interpret drawings, requirements, specifications
  • Experience monitoring & evaluating contractor processing activities
  • Experience auditing Quality Management Systems (performing audits, compliance, and requirements assessments)
  • Technical experience with aerospace industry or military work experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other system utilized on aircraft or aerospace vehicles
  • Ability to read/interpret drawings, requirements, and specifications
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating contractor processing activities
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Ability to work with electronic processing/data systems for the processing of flight hardware documentation.

  • Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others

 

Work Environment:

  • Office environment and KSC Flight hardware and Ground support Testing Facilities
  • Limited telework, position is on-center
  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <10%

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for periods of time at a workstation / desk
  • Requires standing in processing areas for periods of time
  • Ability to climb stairs
